This is a link post American Pie: Grand Rapids style
"The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's "American Pie," a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope." - Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer

Another piece that didn't make it into our documentary. Our ol' pal Bob Ostertag has a thing or two to say about copyright issues and the idea of "making it" by selling recorded material these days. Politicalols within.

If you remember the clip of Jon Rose messing with the BBC Scottish Symphony, then you might be happy to know that these two do some work together in our film. It involves kayaks, accelerometers, and a harpsichord.

This is a normal post We are actually looking for distribution right now
We got accepted to the IDFA film market for possible European venues, but we don't have many connections, so we are not exactly sure how to make it happen since we're just two guys that made a movie. If anyone has any kind of sway or connections in that area, we could use the help.

Here's our IDFA link: idfa.nl/industry/tags/project.aspx?id=B7323B8E-644A-4A46-AD4B-7B1105D1F86E&tab=dfs

Another possibility we're looking at is self-distribution online.

This is a normal post Dalek effect = too much
And if audacity has a compressor, you can easily reduce the discrepancy between amplitude of the two voices.

Plus, halve your filesizes - go mono!
(, Thu 2 Jun 2011, 13:18, Reply)
This is a normal post OK. LFO appears to be low frequency modulation
Not one of the settings on the ring modulation plug-in. I had the lowest settings for everything.

I think it's normalizing it afterwards which is doing it. Messing about with that setting seems to help.

Don't know what a compressor is, so I shall have a play about with it.

Yes. Mono. good point.

Quick & dirty results - set threshold to around -20, ratio somewhere in the region of 5-6. Short attack and gain.

Don't let it "make up gain" to 0db, instead maybe turn it up to -6 or so after the compression.

the LFO on the ring modulator for the dalek effect I assume is too late to correct as it was recorded live with the effect. What software did you use?
(, Thu 2 Jun 2011, 13:27, Reply)
This is a normal post Not recorded live with the effect
I added the effect this morning in Audacity using Killering plug-in on it's lowest settings. Then normaized the Dalek bits - which is the bit which seems to be causing the main problem. Changing the normalizing setting seems to be helping but I can't turn the ring modulation down any lower = everything is on the lowest setting.

This is a normal post Kind of you to offer
but I'll have a play about with the suggestions so far.

I mostly just record it so I can send the other writers copies of their sketches as performed. This was an excuse to see if I could learn anything about audio editing and adding sound effects etc.

my point was... with the dalek effect, the LFO is changing the frequency, or speed, of the dalek effect over time - which isn't what you want, you want it constant.

Hope that helps.

Alternatively gaz me the original recording and I can put it through Logic for ya... will take me half an hour tops.

Followed some of the suggestions and I think it's come out better so many thanks for that.

Haven't really worked out what compressing or limiting does so I'll continue to play about with it.

he's got an amazing voice (whether its had years of training or not). Shame he chose to take it this route, can't imagine he wouldn't have found success/a career from it normally.

the people who need to know this... once they know about it, will completely ignore it...

its like finding proof that there is absolutely no god... it will make atheists feel better, and not change a thing elsewhere....

knowing its all a crock of shit, apparently does nothing to stop people believing in it.

"Scouts working for SYCO first saw Ronan Parke (the 12 year old singer) some two years ago when he was just 10 and was singing at a birthday party for former Norwich City goal-keeper, Bryan Gunn"

That's obviously a prime scouting occasion...

My thoughts exactly. Well that, or the actual setup is whoever is second place behind this kid, so destroying his voter base with these allegations will push the person in second up to the top, letting SC market them as a rebellious anti-establishment artist, fighting the system.

Well it was all interesting reading and I've no doubt some of it is true if not all, which is why I don't vote, or indeed care who wins, but I will still enjoy the program, it's good TV in the old Variety act stylee, regardless of the ridiculous amount of ads and Simon Cowells clicky fucking pen!

tell me a real election is being fraudulently manipulated, and you'll get my interest. Who care if some blatantly commercial talent show, which make no bones about pushing the shit artists on it's label, is doing something else commercial and manipulative?

This is a normal post Now it just reads this:
"Removed due to a claim from Simco Limited ("Syco") and Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited ("Sony")."

I didn't have a chance to read the article but now I can't help but think whatever it did say had more credibility based on the fact that Sony didn't want you reading it.

This is a normal post I think it would be kinda impossible
To pull of such a manipulative feat, even by Syco's standards.
Ofcom would be watching that phone vote very carefully after past allegations.

As an alternative view........What if you had put a bet on someone with Longer odds and decided to make the public feel disgust about the favourite?.....Just a thought.I can see no other reason for the tirade of accusation and finger pointing of creative homosexuality.

If the original post was written by a Sony Exec - I'm Darth Vader!
