So I was chugging along in my Isuzu Trooper
on a back road in rural Aberdeenshire. A nice straight road, but very uphill, so I was struggling to do a decent speed. In my rear view mirror I could see around half a mile behind me; nothing there, so I wasn't holding anything up.
I sensed movement in the mirror, but before my eyes could flick over, this thing (a MacLaren, obvs) zwaffed past me going astonishingly fast.
I think it took 3 seconds, maybe less, to cover that half-mile straight, so it must have been doing at least 120mph. Uphill.

I made this!
A little while back we posted about a Kickstarter campaign we were doing to do a second series of James Acaster's (QI, Have I Got News For You etc) comedy documentary Sweet Home Ketteringa (where he visited his hometown). We were going to Germany, to Kettering's twin town Lahnstein. We met our funding goal and have now started to release the series, this is the first episode, from the first day we arrived and there was a carnival happening.

Having gone to school in Kettering, I had the inevitable exchange trip there.
I remember very little of it other than it's a perfect match; nothing much in the town and even less in the surrounding rural villages. Although it adjoins Koblenz, which is quite a nice place; so marginally less depressing than Kettering itself.

βThe Arab Spring and Climate Changeβ does not argue that climate change caused
the revolutions that have shaken the Arab world over the past two years. But the essays collected in this slim volume make a compelling case that the consequences of climate change are stressors that can ignite a volatile mix of underlying causes that erupt into revolution."

if they are religiously pious enough to observe the Sabbath, why would you want an opt out clause that by definition would be going against the express wishes of the almighty?
God has told them how to live and they are trying to cheat their way around the word and law of god. It sounds terribly unwise to me

As with most dogma, the spirit of the law is lost in the implementation.
I actually worked on a Kibbutz in my gap year and had a fascinating conversation with one of the younger kibbutzniks.
It was an orthodox kibbutz, so meals were properly kosher - they had plates with a red ring around them for meat and a blue ring for dairy. If something meaty touched a blue plate or vice-versa, they'd have to smash the plate.
She explained that the original reason behind not mixing meat and dairy was that you shouldn't eat the meat of the calf whilst drinking the milk of the mother - i.e. don't exploit nature or your natural resources - quite a nice thing to live by...
But by implementing the rules so unthinkingly, they are literally doing the opposite of what was intended by smashing plates because a drop of milk touched a meat plate.
Idiots...

Why don't they make something that encircles a square foot in the Printworks and say everything the other-side is the eruv? It'd be a lot cheaper and they could go to the Trafford Centre on a Saturday without god noticing.

as some one who has had a high pressuer air line give way whilst spraying
and ending up with air under my skin from my finger tips to my right ear that kid playing with the air line disturbs me greatly
Spent a week in hospital and was going to go to surgery so they could open my arm from wrist to my shoulder because they thought that some of the 2pac paint i was using at the time MAY have got under the skin
thankfully for me they didnt.
but it felt like my arm was on fire and every time i moved the skin it crackled like bubble wrap.
Dont mess with high pressure air even blowwing your self down is a realy bad idea.

Expect more Vice videos
But less copy:

I don't go to Vice much, for obvious reasons
but I find the copy to be consistently poor, but some of the vids are really quite good.

I also quite like their videos
In a finger-pointing, look-at-these-poor-bastards-on-krokodil-or-in-North-Korea kinda way.

I preferred it when
it knew what it's mission was, and was quite happy being a magazine for cunts.

What really puzzles the hell out of me
is how Buzzfeed has pretentions of also having some serious news coverage.

It's what always happens
with successful media companies - they have a big panic and decide they should actually be branching out into doing things that are totally different from what they're actually good at.

Er, what's Buzzfeed good at?
Serious question, I'm baffled by its success. I mean, I don't like Huffpo, but I can see why people do, but Buzzfeed? Inexplicable.

It's good at getting clicks
and that's about it. But it works for them as a business model.
In fact, here's the 14 ways it works for them a business model (number 6 will blow your mind!)...

You Forgot To Capitalise The Initial Letter Of Every Fucking Word.
I'm actually convinced that doing that marginally slows down my reading speed.

Hateful as Buzzfeed is,
these two articles were genuinely good: an interesting interview, and an honest-to-god scoop

Er
well I suppose the ambassador one was ok, poorly subbed though :βas an ambassador really you should be at home with your children, and not being a full-time ambassadorβ.
The Uber one though? There's a dark side to PR? Who knew? I also think Uber get much more press coverage than they merit simply because of the tech dimension of their business. You can do your supermarket shop online but we don't get endless articles about that.

I seem to remember
that this was the first article that lifted the lid on the Uber culture, which might have been known about in various circles, but it certainly wasn't public knowledge how toxic the company was.
I'm not saying it's Woodward and Bernstein, though.

D:
I would have adopted all of them. There's no issue keeping 40 tigers in a 2-up 2-down is there?

And so it unfolds
Quite why they kept these dead cubs is a strange one. There have been repeated accusations that place has contributed to the Chinese trade in 'traditional medicine' with animal parts, accusations that may be bearing some fruit

Not a fan of corporal punishment,
But in this case I think an apt punishment would be for the "monks" to be fed to the tigers that remain.

So is all this hysteria a result of america's prescription drug problem? Their narcissism boom? Or is it the internet?
