This is a normal post I work in live events (I actually did a Rick Astley gig in Manchester last Friday) and can tell you that they're to deflect flying bottles of piss, as the drummer can't easily swerve them.
(Not really...they're to cut down the amount of sound coming directly from the drum kit to the audience, so the levels can more easily be controlled via the PA, usually in smaller venues.)

This is a normal post Sound guards are a godsend
If you play in a group with the trumpets behind you. Proper deafeners when they want to be.

We use those sound barriers for isolating drums while recording alright, prevents spilling into other mics while playing as a group.
There are circular clip on sound barriers for brass players to put onto their microphones.
The sound that doesn't go into the mic bounces back to you so you can hear yourself even if the sound engineer doesn't put the right amount into your monitor. Really handy stuff

(, Wed 5 Apr 2017, 16:10, , Reply)
This is a normal post I don't doubt that Mr Lee is entirely correct,
however I'd like to offer some anecdotal evidence that I think is relevant. I know someone who went to see Lee Nelson live (I know, I was shocked to know someone who'd watch him on tv, nevermind pay money to see him, but there you go). Anyway, it was somewhere outside London, Essex I think, and he did some anti Brexit stuff and absolutely died. He got quite flustered apparently and awkwardly changed tack after a bit, but it was in the second half and he never really recovered.

This is a normal post I listen to lots of comics that do anti brexit stuff.
I don't get annoyed, just find it a bit safe and boring.

However I can imagine a situation where if you go to a town that voted heavily for brexit and spend your act saying how wrong they are it's not going to get a laugh.

Even comics I really like cannot make their anti-Brexit stuff funny and the constant yawnsomeness of what the also-rans do is painfully dull. The only person to have reflected on his remainder position with some kind of self-awareness is Adam Buxton, as far as I'm aware.

This is a normal post Surprised he says that Al Murray
doing an anti-Brexit show hasn't hit his audience. That's the only one in the list who has any sort of blurred line in their politics/audience.

I read that Telegraph article the other day and did wonder how Marcus Brigstocke knew why someone was walking out of his show. I'm not sure how long I could last watching him do a routine on Brexit, and it wouldn't be because I disagreed with him.
