let me guess...
physics engine suffered a numerical integrator collapse in calculating a force vector for friction.
The idea is pretty simple... in each calculation a small amount of numerical error is created. Under some circumstances this can grow to the point where a number is divided by a VERY small number... resulting in instintanious near infinite force.
hence flying cars or objects gaining speed through collisions.
The "enter the matrix" game driving levels were notorious for being able to screw up in this way (causing all other cars on the road to fly)

because it played all the frames but unfortunately the frames were all the same.
The trouble with tutorials (I find) is that the writer assumes that the learner knows certain stuff. That is why I've had so many problems with learning tattyshop. I will make a note of this and ask Lemony to add it to his otherwise excellent tutorial.
