Grrrrrr.
Didn't someone post something along similar lines not so long ago, about pageant mothers sending their daughters for waxing "treatments" of some sort? (Something tells me it was a link to the Sun, and concerned a Brit who's moved to America... but I can't remember.)
As I said: Grrrrrr.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:35, Reply)

Very cruel, but even from a biological point of view, why would you have to wax a child?
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:36, Reply)

Though I think that "reasonable" is an adjective that associates with some of these people's actions only for long enough to wave goodbye.

It reduces friction. When they go hurling down that bowling alley, you get extra impact on the pins.

Enslaved, one of my all time favourite Black Metal bands, I present this to you for Heavy Metal Friday. This is the sort of music I play on my radio show. I love Black Metal.
Directed by: Luka Bajt, winner of the Fan Video Contest!

From the thread below, I'm intrigued to see people's routes to work on their bike. Here's mine, generally flat and about 11.3 miles. Bastard hill on the way home though...
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:44, Reply)

(though the 'work out calories' is obviously bollocks)
Last year I was doing a lot of cycling & I was sad enough to get home and input every route. Sort of related, my brother's trying to convince me to cycle Land's End to John O'Groats, which sounds fun; but he wants to do it without any training, which doesn't.
(also- what link below?)
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:56, Reply)

It's indeed great, but I think the calories thing is based on it being a pedometer, i.e. walking, so when it's reporting 8000ish for a 50 mile "ride" it might be about right if you walked that maybe?
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:01, Reply)

Either your paedometer is bust or you cycle around /talk.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:12, Reply)

there's so many variables, from body-make up, type of bike to terrain &c. that it's impossible to accurately work out.
Still, probably best not to obsess about calories anyway.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:28, Reply)

Almost exactly 10 miles each way:
www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4502616
2800 calories? I doubt it. Great site though, hadn't seen it before.
This is a crazy 200 mile ride I've got lined up in Sweden next month:
www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4502626
29000 calories, lol.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:05, Reply)

I think it's got itself a bit confused, it's relatively flat there. I'm guessing it's because I go down a couple of small cycle lanes.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:13, Reply)

is that the overnight round the lake jobbie? was talking to someone about it a few weeks back - i assumed as it's round a lake it'd be pretty flat. apparently not, so i'm going to stick to the Dunwich Dynamo because I'm a wuss. And only have one gear.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:15, Reply)

Yes, it's the Vätternrundan. We've got a 10.30pm starting slot, will cycle through the night, see the sunrise and push on to around 1pm ish. There's 20000 people doing it, should be 'fun'
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:57, Reply)

I find the video very distasteful - its clearly a deeply upsetting thing for her and its packaged for our entertainment. I thought laughing at people who were crying was something we'd all left in the school playground.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:58, Reply)

And you're missing he point, I reckon.
She has set herself up here, that is all.
She's craving the attention and with that comes the risk of public humiliation.

what bit is the sympathy for?
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:28, Reply)

I don't know this girl, or anything about her really aside from the fact that she was in a successful pop group a decade ago, and had a brief solo career after that.
Assuming this video is recent, now she's got cameras following her as she tries to (re)launch her career for the express reason of catching her crying when she fails.
You can say what you want about fame-hungry, talent-vacuum media products, but I find the industry that's recently built up around documenting their falls from grace (or failures of ascension) disgusting.
Perhaps what's most distressing is that we (the TV-watching public) lap it up.
/rant :)
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:39, Reply)

Your sympathy, that is.
Are you externalising deep-rooted stuff there?
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:42, Reply)

yes, it's true. I always wanted to be famous but daddy wouldn't send me to stage school :(
Why is it misguided? Is another human being in distress not deserving of my sympathy?
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:47, Reply)

I'm a plumber.
Sometimes I get wet at work, sometimes I don't.
When I get wet at work I don't post footage of myself getting upset about it on the interweb/tv/outside world.
I may well mutter "oh, bollocks. wet again, there's a fucking novelty, what with me being a plumber etc"
Then again, I may well not.
But just to remove any risk of ambiguity...
I don't whine about it on the interweb.
I'm positively bursting with dignity ;)
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:57, Reply)

If she had the tiniest modicum of common sense she'd realise that she's over the hill and give up and do something else.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:45, Reply)

but that doesn't make her undeserving of a little sympathy.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:54, Reply)

However, her lacking the faintest shred of dignity or intelligence makes her a justifiable target. See my response above.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 10:59, Reply)

at my house and got wet I'd say "bad luck mate! Here's a towel, would you like a brew?" - little bit of sympathy there ;)
If I'd got video of you getting wet I'd sell it to Harry Hill and split the money 50/50 with you too!
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:07, Reply)

Where are you? I'll be round this afternoon!
But seriously, you get me, yeah?
She's no more entitled to complain about the lack of success than I am about getting the occasional soaking.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:13, Reply)

but if I see a person who's genuinely upset I feel a degree of sympathy for their distress.
Having said that there are exceptions! If I ever saw Tony Blair upset I'd laugh at him ;)
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:18, Reply)

She ain't having my sympathy because that means I have to feel for what she's got and quite franky I down fucking want to.
I pity her that's all, because actually it's none of my fucking business and there's nothing I can do for her.
( , Fri 13 May 2011, 11:08, Reply)

...the thousands and thousands of singers out there. She should be happy with that and move on. I'm sure there's loads of people out there who'd employ her behind the scenes in showbiz.
Sympathy = none.

..but one tiny thing he says is true. This 'positive discrimination' thing is bollocks. I'm sure white, black, asian...ALL people should agree that people should be chosen for a job on merit.
I know of an employer who has just created a 'diversity manager'...Erm, the workplace in question is already diverse. There are already people of different races, religions etc....Nobody was paying it any mind. Everyone was lovely and integrated until it was brought up, now people are concerned about the REAL reason people are or aren't employed.
Well done, genius, you just promoted racism a little bit. fail.

NSFW for cartoon violence and boobies. If you haven't seen the cartoon, the things the band are in is that liquid oxygen thing like in The Abyss. In the cartoon it;s pointed out that you end up drinking your own piss.
