Piece of advice:
I was given a similar letter twelve months ago stating that a third of the workforce would be cut. Even though I was not expecting to be in the firing line, I spent that weekend polishing the CV and dropped it on a client's desk the following Monday as I knew they were hiring. This week I've found out that my old employer are now looking to lose *another* third. My current employer is no longer hiring as they got everyone they wanted.
Basically at this point, unless you've got twenty years or more of service and are therefore in line for a good payoff, you should be looking to beat the rush. Prospective employers will undoubtedly know that your current place is looking at layoffs and they know therefore that they can target the most willing and able. Not waiting to be pushed is therefore a massive tick in your favour.

There is a huge sense of relief when you are able to jump before you find out whether you were going to be pushed.

"MEGA" Was the term he used... showed off his fake crocodile skin suit and wouldn't shut up for ages, banged on about how he made a million people cry... band aided his shit all over the place. eventually they played some music and he insisted on adding his own percussion, ith a fucking tambourine and a plastic bottle. He had no sense of timing of rythm at all and pretty much fucked the gig up, until his band mates shut him up and started playing "boom town rats" the sound engineer had to switch him off. Proper twat.

Internet Number Stations miss the point entirely
The point of a Numbers Station is to be able to communicate with spies working in the field, right? These spies work in places were internet is not available, so they use shortwave radio, because you can pick up a SW set pretty much anywhere round the world.
Also it's worth pointing out that Number Stations work by keeping their recipient secret (they don't care if people know who is broadcasting). Accessing a website leaves a trace back to the recipient, something which an analogue broadcast can't do.

A little.
My parents lived in the US, and still live abroad, and have a bunch of American friends, some of whom are Republican.
Essentially, they're mostly confused.
There are a bunch of reasons for this. Some of them aren't very bright. Some of them haven't understood that what they've been told by the right-wing US media / politicians is in large part lies (e.g. "If Stephen Hawking were British, he'd be dead because of the NHS").
There's also a general fear of the term "socialism", which is practically the same as "communism" as far as many of them are concerned, and that's bad, right?
Some of them I have some sympathy for. E.g. they have some American friends who are in their 90s (I think), who grew up in the wilderness (in Oregon, IIRC). They had no roads, no amenities; when the wife was ready to drop a sprog, they went to the hospital on horseback and forded a flooded river on their own. So they are very suspicious of government, because they don't really understand what it's for.
The irony is that most of these people now live in a left-wing country (Costa Rica) and talk about how wonderful the education and healthcare is. They don't seem to get the irony... but they are American, so casual racism LOLs, eh?

Fear is a reasonable distinction to draw.
It tends to play a large role in average conservative thinking in the US. The motivation of the political rights' mouthpieces on the other hand has more to do with lobbying interests.

I thought the voice sounded familiar.
It's the same actor who played fry on Futurama. Never noticed before.

I look down on you, because I am considerably more in orbit attached to the international space station than you.
This is a new webcam attached to the ISS - streaming HD video most of the time. (sometimes there isn't signal space.channel4.com/tracker/ shows you where it is. )
If it's over a dark shaded area - it's night there, and you won't see much - dawn/dusk is awesome.

Give it about 45 minutes and it will be over Atlantic going towards Europe and in daylight.
EDIT: the tracking site's clock is wrong though. says it's 10:18 GMT but it's defo 11:18 here so my guess would be South America visible around 12-12:30 GMT
Edit edit: It's got audio too...

Indeed, so much wonderful hate.
"what did you cut your tomatoes with, your fucking elbow?"
Made me lol, as did many other choice phrases.
Also: "The way I see it, obesity is kinda like chlamydia, or pregnancy. You get it from carelessness and it’s relatively easy to get rid of. In fact, I made a little diagram."
