The second you realize what is what, you become over committed. None the less, inspiration is the most precious resource I know, and I get it from you. Thanks for the kudos, and know I applaud your efforts. I think many people lurk and draw inspiration here, and you are a prolific producer or inspiration, so thanks and shit. No, really. My friends are trying to restore an old family dolls house into a steam punk version...
It must be said that this particular dollhouse is a family treasure and is in need of a lot of work. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
The build will be documented here
www.steampunkdollhouse.com/index.html
So far its just a shell.....
What should they do to it?
please follow and give constructive idea's.
( , Fri 19 Aug 2011, 1:24, Reply)

Not much of a dollhouse man myself, but I would add copper and brass tacks, maybe a wee steam radiator, couple of handguns, stuff like that.

Have fun now, make it cool as chuff, is what I say. Turn an outdated piece of junk into a beautiful work of art, which is they so choose kids can still play with.
PS Dolls house furniture and related items is a very expensive 'hobby' and is mostly a sad old adult hobby, rather than a kids thing.

and then put it all on wheels for the true traction-house look.

( , Thu 18 Aug 2011, 22:59, Reply)

As a science radio journalist, I'm well aware of how easy it would be to distort meaning. I think it's often done accidentally by journalists who do not have a background in science; so are unaware of the nuances of scientific language, but exactly the same techniques can be deployed to further an agenda.
Do you find it near impossible to really enjoy consuming media now? I often wince at poor edits and bad cuts!
( , Fri 19 Aug 2011, 8:59, Reply)

I'm sorry, but that's nonsense. What point is he making? That cutaways are a device for distorting an interviewee's words? That all cutaways are doing this? That TV journalists constantly misrepresent interviewees? That all journalists are "unscrupulous", as he says?
Yes, some newspapers have been known to do it, but TV in Britain is heavily regulated by OFCOM and anything like it would be picked up on and the organisation would be punished.
The example he uses is from an obscure programme on conspiracy theories, so you should already have a large pinch of salt at hand. It's not, you'll note, from a reputable news programme like the BBC, ITV or Sky.
It just doesn't happen.
