It was Farnborough Air show! Thousands of people taking pics, videos, audio. My guess is this guy was doing something odd, and rather than talk about it like a grown up he had a hissy fit. His main beef on the You Tube channel was that he was desperate for the loo. But whatever he was doing obviously took precedent over that. There are loads of loos at the show, and perhaps it is just my age but i know what gets priority here!
Edit: And anyone being restrained and put to the ground whose priority is to shout: 'That's not a law, that's only an Act!' Is very probably an arsehole who was looking for trouble in the first place.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 0:31, Reply)

I see loads of Youtube videos where confrontations with police are filmed just to cause aggravation, and knowing there's nothing they can do about it.
Turn the camera off, deal with the situation like a reasonable human being and fuck off.

I noted that there were quite a few security staff surounding him as he was arrested, would have been nice to see what lead up to the arrest, but I'm guessing he convienatly left that out. Like was said above, everyone at that show had a camera, wonder why he was singled out ?

I don't expect the police to use lines like
'You want more pain? You want more pain? You want more pain?'
While restraining a clearly out numbered and weaker person.
I expect the police to be level headed and calm.
I expect the police to not be intimidating.
I expect the police to realise they are dealing with a nut job and react accordingly.
I expect the police to not be the bunch of cunts that they are.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 0:46, Reply)

But refering to them as cunts and filth is also not a great starting point to make things better, which clearly they need to be.

..and as a motorcycle courier.
A mohican is not a license for the police to assault me, nor is a speeding ticket. One of them is not any kind of crime (except maybe against fashion) the other a punitive financial penalty is applied not a sly dig from the police with a truncheon ion the back of the car. My one supposedly good experience with the police was watching them beat up a person who had just assaulted me. This is just three experiences in a long list of negative experiences with them. I have no criminal record and apart from speeding on the public high way have never committed a crime. This should not be the experience of a law abiding citizen. I don't have to change the way I behave, they do.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 1:03, Reply)

but interested. When you had the Mohawk, was that not a message to the rest of us that you weren't marching to our drum? That you had your own view of life?
You surely knew little old ladies would tut, and your parents wouldn't understand you. Isn't that why you did it?
So why might you get surprised when the society you rejected started to be suspicious of you?
Please don't be cross in your answer.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 1:11, Reply)

The police should still behave in accordance with the laws they are supposed to uphold.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 1:50, Reply)

Yes I was and still am surprised that I was assaulted by the police because I looked different. The reason I choose to have a mohican is because I liked the way it looked. I wasn't attacking society, I was having fun.
I was attacked because of the way I looked, not for what I did, would we even be having this discussion if I was attacked because I was black?
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 2:12, Reply)

Your look was 100% your choice, knowing full well you would be turned down for various jobs, should you apply. No doctor or solicitor is going to want Vivian from he Young Ones on reception or a practitioner.
People on the street are going to do a double take.
If you don't want attention, snuggle down in a cardy and watch Heartbeat. If you want attention, don't complain when you get it.
As for the last point, black people are born black. You chose your look.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 2:40, Reply)

I quite often worked on reception when the main receptionist was out to lunch. I never had a problem getting work when I was a punk.
The point is though regardless of my look being choice or something from birth, the fact is my experience with the police involves being on the wrong end of violence because of the way I looked.
Attention never bothered me, receiving violence from the guardians of the law the people paid to keep all of us safe from crime. No that is not attention and is certainly not something I should have just put up with because I looked a bit different...
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 5:40, Reply)

I thought it was an interesting discussion to have. I agree the police should never act in that manner, my hope is the majority don't.
For information (Esp. for WiL down there who seems a bit cross), I actually know quite a bit about being judged on looks. I'm a qualified aerospace engineer, and did a stint as a car wiring designer too.
I'm also female and blonde.
My entire career of over 20 years has been spent with half the people around thinking I am there to make the tea or take the minutes.
So I do know a bit about it.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 12:30, Reply)

Sorry but the argument ,'If you choose to stand out you choose to get hurt' is bullshit and no more correct than, 'If you choose to wear a short skirt you choose to get raped' or ,'If you have red hair you're scum' cos they've chosen not to dye it, other people can CHOOSE not to behave like animals against others who do nothing more than enjoy expressing themselves or look different to the norm in any way, and instead of choosing to try n kill them for it you might like instead to be happy they gave you something interesting to look at in your otherwise dull conformist judgementalist twat of a life wandering about trying to force others to be as dull as you.
And for the record having a Mohawk doesn't mean your a doley scrounger against society neither, it just means you have a hairstyle, personally I did it for years because I AM different, I'm mentally divergent, and instead of people expecting me to be like them all the time it gave them a first clue that I was not, but after so many years when the chav attitude that everyone must be like them or die came about I finally had to give it up because my hairstyle literally became a life or death situation, I was once hospitalised for weeks, FOR MY HAIR, and if you think that's right and only expected then there's something seriously fucking wrong with you IMO!
Oh and FYI, and there are plenty of folks I know with alternative appearances who get work just fine, as garage workers, tattooists, alternate clothing shop workers, cooks, nurses, graphic designers, IT types n alsorts, and it certainly isn't any of their doing when they get into any trouble for their appearance, and it definitely shouldn't be coming from our law enforcers, so I repeat, GET TO FUCK!
*edit* I suppose when some guys come into a gay bar n twat a few regulars it's their own fault for choosing not to hide their gayness away at home, as well, is it?
Get to fucking fuck you small minded tosspot, seriously, do us all a favour n fuck right off.

Say I support Glasgow Rangers and choose to go for a walk through a "Celtic" area of Glasgow on a match day. Yes, I have the right to do it wearing a Rangers shirt and waving a Union Jack. And if someone assaults me, they should be prosecuted. But, I should also be aware that it was a reckless thing to do and therefore have some responsibility for the result of my actions.
Many police do mistreat people, but to approach the police with a "they are all the same" attitude is short sighted and counter productive.
I just wish the people posting videos of their confrontations with the police were those who genuinely suffer abuse and prejudice, and not the smart-arses that we keep seeing.
( , Wed 18 Jul 2012, 10:07, Reply)

If the entire society around you thinks that's right, then it is wrong.
I understand you understand therefore that it's a danger to do so, but that doesn't make those beating others up over it any more right, and that's the point.
There are entire countries were the majority think its ok n fine to persecute people for all kinds of victimless reasons and we tut n accept they're in the wrong, what makes people think just cos some similar attitudes are becoming the norm here that that makes it right over here?

The situations I find myself in :)
A little something from this afternoon. This was all a bit random, I just found Terry with Kermal and just started shooting without a tripod at hand, so it does suffer from a bit of camera shake, so I didn't bother to upload it HD or particularly large.
What you will see is one man's remarkable relationship with one of his fully grown snow leopards, the trust, the genuine affection. I didn't feel in danger at any point in this situation btw, Kermal was simply his chilled, placid self.
We were trying to move him and Nina into the enclosure next door, but he was having none of it.

( , Tue 17 Jul 2012, 22:03, Reply)

Each animal has it's own personality and temperament, so you know how you approach each animal when you've got to know it after time.
As all the b3tan's who have had the pleasure of meeting these guys in person will testify, some of our cats are really completely hands off, and Terry would never even attempt something like this with them. Our two Amur leopards are a completely no go area even contemplating contact such as this. We have a male snow leopard who is equally as 'You are not invited into my personal space, fuck off.'
But this is the relationship Terry has developed with this adult male, and it's touching. At no point hovering over Terry's shoulder did I detect or sense any irritation or hostility from Kermal, he was just enjoying having a good scratch. Our girls are the same. I was in with one of them on Friday holding a boom for a film maker with Terry and a chicken trying to lure it out of it's enclosure, and into a new one.

I phoned up and threatened not to come to work one day, there was a line manager at my work the next day. He told me they should have paid me straight away. Agreed to pay for all my fees from the bank for unpaid direct debits etc. Then they left me with no line manager for 2 months and I got another job. Utter shambles.

I'm always impressed by lurkage like that, over three years & then posting is very impressive. Merely for remembering the password.

777 crash at Heathrow. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJNVVlBPi8M. Cool as cucumbers. Fortunately no-one was seriously hurt.

Firstly there's something about hearing the word 'Mayday' over the radio which always sends a shiver up the spine, but also because while the ATC controller was the very model of presence of mind under extreme stress, the BA crew completely fluffed it.

Crash landing caused by uncommanded thrust reduction - root cause found to be ice formation in the fuel/oil heat exchanger restricting the fuel flow.
CFIT covers accidents where the plane is airworthy, but unintentionally flown into the ground. Probably the most famous example being the Mount Erebus crash.

Someone on Youtube asked that too. Did the pilot just get his call-sign wrong?
( , Tue 17 Jul 2012, 22:27, Reply)

In the simulators at that point BA always used the callsign Speedbird 95. Not sure why, maybe it didn't conflict with any of their actual callsigns. Whatever the reason, it meant that whenever the pilots trained for emergency situations, they were always using the same callsign.
Unfortunately, this meant that when the crew reverted to their learned procedures, they also unwittingly reverted to the callsign they were using in the sim. BA revised their training procedures as soon as this came to light.
