Just a bit of Sunday afternoon destruction courtesy of our friends across the pond.
Seems fitting too, as after last nights revelry i'm pretty sure this is exactly what's going on inside my head.

With a different pattern.
And in a different shape.
It doesn't smell of guinea pig piss either.

Same link I posted a little earlier, only it's working now. Sorry for the invcnvenience.
To continue the "music" theme of this Sunday, though barely, I present by popular demand a collection of the worst music ever recorded. Most of the 'bad music' compilations I found contained large quantities of novelty records and other deliberately bad or wacky music, which in my opinion isn't really fair. I set myself a rule with these that only genuinely non-ironically bad music was allowed - the performers must have at least tried, in fact often they are trying a little too hard. The only other rule I decided upon was that only universally bad music was allowed. My personal choices of Westlife, Celine Dion, James Blunt and Michael Learns To Rock were a temptation I had to resist. Here instead are 21 songs I'm sure everybody will hate. I for one hope to never hear any of them again.
1. Portsmouth Sinfonia - From The Nutcracker Suite
2. Elvis Presley - Old MacDonald
3. Vanilla - No Way No Way
4. Barney - I Love You
5. Nola Campbell - Searching For My Baby
6. The Legendary Stardust Cowboy - Paralyzed
7. St Winifred's School Choir - There's No-one Quite Like Grandma
8. Pat Campbell - Mother Went A Walking
9. Devastatin Dave - Zip Zap Rap
10. Eli Kaniel - The Impossible Dream
11. P.J. Proby - Only You (And You Alone)
12. Rotterdam Termination Source - Poing!
13. Maguerita Pracatan - Hello
14. Reginald Bosanquet - Dance With Me
15. Gloria Balsam - Fluffy
16. Roy "Chubby" Brown with Smokie - Alice
17. The Blue Smarties - Take A Look
18. Gypsy Boots and The Nature Boys - These Boots Are Made For Walking
19. William Shatner - Rocket Man
20. Peter Andre & Jordan - A Whole New World
21. Keith Harris & Orville - Orville's Song
Podblog is as ever here, and as an extra special feature this fortnight I also have full notes on each track available to download as a text file here.
If you have any further ideas for songs to go in this mix please gaz them to me last week.

...but so is the Portsmouth Sinfonia. Have you heard theiur version of Also Strach Zarathustra ? (Main theme from 2001.)
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 17:22, Reply)

The Portsmouth Sinfonia actually tried their best, though as they could hardly play the instruments it was always going to turn out like that.
That's why they can go in and the Bonzos can't.
Also Strach Zarathustra is good, the best is the Willam Tell Overture, which I can't seem to find, unforunately.

You should probably approach an agent about getting voiceover work in the advertising industry, you've got the voice for it.
I used to have an answering message on my landline that said, "Your call is irrelevant to us. Please hold while we continue to ignore you. Alternatively, leave a message at the tone, which will be instantly discarded."
I got exactly no telemarketing spam on my line.

i think this needs a bit more work, and the mix might be a bit off due to shitty headphones on my laptop, but any feedback whastoever is massively appreciated at this stage, as i'd like to finish this by the end o the weekend.
for those needing more description, it's a whack of fat breaks in your face. oh, and robert frost, because it felt a bit relevant, and filled an otherwise embarassing void.
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 6:49, Reply)

did you make the breaks?
i would lose the voice-over though - a bit nineties.
overall i liked it :)
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 8:29, Reply)

all breaks are sampled, as i am generally not half as talented as i would like.
point taken about the voiceover. have had coldcut 'journeys by dj' on the ipod for a bit too long i guess.
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 13:41, Reply)

I like it!
Mixwise, the phasered guitar stabs are riding too high in the mix. And moar kick please.
The only thing it's missing for me is a funktastic bassline, but that's because I am a seriously cheesy bastard.
What tools are you using?
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 10:20, Reply)

i'm a real primitive, so it's actually nothing more than cooledit and fruityloops. a lack of input devices has hampered the bassline addition so far, but i'll just have to dig extra hard through the crates i guess.
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 13:37, Reply)

let's not be calling FL Studio primitive, alright? It kicks Cubase and Reason right through the wall. In fact, the only thing I use Cubase for is when I'm writing classical music to picture, as the timewarp function is priceless.
Never thee mind about a live base. In FL studio, pop open a 3xOSC and mute the bottom two oscillators. Then set the remaining oscillator to a saw wave.
That would be a nice scratchy funky sound to use for a bassline.
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 19:31, Reply)

but tbh i nearly lol'd at the very first drum bit with the cymbals? whats that all about?
as stated above it needs a bassline, and i add that it also needs to go somewhere... seems like blindly floating in a pool of black water lookin for a light but you know you aint gonna find it till it burns you in the face.
( , Sun 28 Sep 2008, 11:14, Reply)

all the drums come from jimmy smith's 'slow down sagg', which is also the source of the cymbals.
