They try though. That's the main thing.
I remember reading that when the 360 was first released, a lot of people could only play on it for more than ten minutes by suspending the power supply off the floor so that it cooled better.
This must mean that the Xbox is designed and built by polar bears, otherwise you'd think that this heating problem would get noticed at some point in the testing stage.
I have a Wii. I like the Wii.

For Gran Turismo (dowloaded the latest demo from Japan last night. That was fun, all those picture-letters) and Metal Gear more than anything.
They're getting to be a good deal now I reckon. Just watch what you get. My 60gb model has actual hardware for playing PS2 and PS1 games inside, instead of emulation stuff the new ones have, so I lucked out.
Plus I like the fact that wireless is built-in, as is Blu-ray (you need to pay extra for both and they're both external on the 360, it all adds up) and the firmware updates are adding more and more interesting things. You can also upgrade the hard drive with any 2.5" HDD you like, and it reinstalls stuff all by itself, without invalidating the warrenty.
And, you need to pay for X-Box Live on the 360, not sure how much, but all online stuff on the PS3 is free too.

no idea who though. The likelihood is that the ships have come loose on the motherboard; if it's out of warrenty open it up and press every chip back onto the main motherboard then re-power up (sounds bollocks, but that's how 90% of them are fixed by Microsoft)
( ,

Apparenly if you have a SATA port on your motherboard in your home pc, you can remove the DVD drive from the console and connect it to the SATA port - it's possible to flash the DVD drive to play backups through a floppy boot disk by doing this.

When the console heats up and the DVD drive is used, the motherboard vibrates slightly off the external casing and eventually shakes the chips from the motherboard. The console BIOS spacks out and gives 3 lovely rings of death. They've sorted it to a much better degree in the latest batch of consoles plus as it's their fault you should be given a replacement free of charge too.

you only need to slightly overheat the GPU memory chips and let them cool. Too much heat elsewhere will fry other components.
