well, do it when you're ready.
just don't delay forever - even people we have little in common with or dislike or care for despite some qualities deserve to appraise us as we are, not as we pretend to be.
my dad was cool with me being queer (he had no opinion on hetero couples, for that matter), my mother vacillates on it (as she does on everything). my ex's parents were terrific - i was their son's partner, no different than the hetero kids' partners.

oh, that's the rebel flag.
a southern u.s. thing, the band co-opted it more in mockery than anything else. they constantly waver around being dickheads who dare people to take what they say (and sing) literally.
this is most displayed in their song 'bomb the boats' (chorus: "bomb the boats and feed the fish"), as a tribute to refugees, who were commonly called 'boat people' here in canada in the 70s and 80s. they were criticised as hateful white-power racists, and effectively replied "call us racists if you like, we may be and you'll never know if you just shriek at us. by the way, why target us when politicians and media outlets say much worse? is it because we're a punk band and don't have a lot of money?"
