# IBM invented goatse

Years ago, IBM made a whopping 1Gb drive. I'm not sure exactly HOW long ago this was, but next to it is a 1Gb SD card for comparison.

Remind you of anything?

# At the end of 1997
I bought 2 5.2GB drives which were, IIRC, the largest commercial drives available at the time. They cost me £255 each as part of a self build that came to £1200 for the whole PC plus OS. ( I asked PC world, for a lark, what they would charge me to build the same machine and they quoted me just under £3k ).

I built a dual core machine for my Dad this year for well under £300.

Although I really do have to credit my friend for the idea.
In my defence it was my wound :P
There's a story behind it actually - I got a cut there when I sliding tackled someone in football (lol - ball!) Then a few weeks later (yesterday) I got the exact same cut the exact same place doing the exact same thing, though this time I sent the other person to hospital by breaking their wrist when they fell down =/
Even more coincidental is that my friend who managed to get acid in her eye saw the person at hospital and rang me to tell me I had fractured their wrist x]

It was introduced in the early 1980s I think. We had quite a few in our mainframe room.
edit: 1980, capacity 2.5 GB (so I assume it's either not a 3380 or the label is wrong)
Anyway, it's a mainframe DASD, so it's a bit unfair to compare it with an SD card, which would burn up and die if you tried to give it the punishment these babies used to take.
