I'm quite happy
that I've got a Flash blocker on this that lets me pick which animations I watch. This means that I can read the Youtube comments before watching the video, and in this case prudently decide not to click on the video to watch it... Of course, in other situations it means that I can read the Youtube comments before watching the video, and Youtube comments make me want peel my retinas out.
(

Bear in mind
Youtube comments are not even made by the stupidest people who watch the videos. There's a whole other realm of stupid that's hidden because the people who inhabit it are too stupid to type.

if you're using firefox
then flashblock works fine. it leaves a little play button in the middle of the video instead of actually playing it. saves acres of bandwidth and a lot of sanity. and your eardrums when some website decides it wants to play some shittily compressed flash ad at full volume. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

You could have a machine-readable 'contract' for bots.
That would set out what was allowed (in fact, almost nothing, so it might be a little pointless (but you could have a section of the site - the "bot pen" where they could peddle their wares)) and what wasn't allowed (almost everything, but including posting in new threads).
