Watched that remake this weekend - so so dull, and I wished it lived up to the promise of the trailer.
also caught 'The Boy in the striped Pyjamas' as well. Nearly blubbing like a baby at the end - such a wonderfully acted film, and a brilliant (and harrowing) story. Keeps very close to the book as well. TDTESS - 3 archies out of 10 TBITSP - 8 archies out of 10

Thanks for the potted reviews...
I have a knee-jerk bad reaction to remakes of classics that are already perfect.
(
enceladus ,
Tue 17 Feb 2009, 10:08,

indeed, I sat through it and was indifferent by the end, it just didn't 'work' for me. Just seemed to be unecessary
the second film though, I heartily recommend. Well paced (and harrowing) story, superb acting from the two main young leads, and even if you've read the book, the ending will still 'get' to you. If you don't know the story then don't go searching out the ending before watching/reading it

I shall seek it out.
At the risk of turning this into /talk - remakes of classics that are any good? I can't think of one. So why bother? Can you think of any good ones, b3tans?

I kind of thought that Keanu might have carried it off, judging by the trailers
sadly no, and GORT was just wasted :( it was a 'filler' film
