(
Extinct Jesus Dossier "...I think it counteracts Hitler's magic..." ,
Fri 9 Mar 2012, 11:20,

Yes
It's a book of short stories exploring the effect and behaviour of Asimov's three laws of robotics. The first of which is "A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm". But the temptation to add a killer robot got the better of them, pretty much missing the point of the book.
(
fuscous ,
Fri 9 Mar 2012, 11:42,
archived )
But ...
**Spoiler alert ** I thought the point of the film was that the robot did what he did for the good of humanity rather than an individual human, often referred to as the "zeroth" law of robotics in Asimov's universe. So it was in keeping with the theme of Asimov's robot works, if not the individual "I, Robot" book.

Transport wrongitude
Melbourne's public transport is doing away with paper tickets and moving into something a bit like the Oyster card. There's just something a bit not-quite-right with their marketing slogans. Plus I'm fed up with the constant voice-overs reminding me how easy it is to touch my monkey.

Other favourites include Ginifer, Dennis, Willison, Darling and Yarraman - none of which are actually suburbs. There's an interesting anecdote relating to Balaclava railway station, by the way. In 1996, a person found $200,000 stashed in a plastic drum on land adjacent to the station and handed it in to the police. A few days later, someone else who'd heard about this remarkable find on the news went looking in the same place for more money and - lo and behold - found another $200,000 hidden in exactly the same way. The second person also handed the money to the police. After that, I imagine that half of Melbourne would have been rummaging around the bushes (when they'd finished kicking themselves). I know I seriously thought about it.
