In my opinion, the problem with forced inclusivity/blackwashing/brownwashing in these kinds of scenarios
Is that it doesn't really solve anything.
The issue isn't that white people are being deprived roles, it's that it very much seems like black/brown/whatevs people are occasionally being granted roles specifically to tick a box, or worse - to deliberately provoke reaction.
People getting upset over black elves in Middle Earth or black actors portraying secondary characters from books they've probably never read probably need to get a fucking hobby. But casting a white actress to play the role of Ariel, or Snow White (who's literally described as being super fucking white if we're going by the Disney version) just screams woke bullshit.
Granted, there aren't a huge amount (any) 'classic' Disney productions with a non-white lead, but you'd be hard pushed to claim that non-white actors are struggling to find work these days. I doubt there would have been nearly as much controversy if they'd just cast some boring white girl in either of these roles in place of the obvious diversity hires. What has been achieved other than making some dweebs disproportionately triggered? Who's actually winning out of this besides the actor who's probably been cast specifically because they're non-white rather than in spite of it?

Although, I'm not sure talent would have been enough to justify Tom Hardy being cast as Black Panther or Gary Oldman taking the lead in a Barack Obama biopic.
I suppose what I'm getting at is that just casting a black actor in a traditionally white role and calling it diversity feels a bit low-effort. Surely if the producers want to support diversity and black culture, a better way is to bring traditional black folklore to a wider audience. Why isn't Disney focusing on creating new, culturally and racially diverse characters instead? Too much risk? Moana did pretty well, as did Mulan.

The Little Mermaid isn't the most pertinent example.
As others have mentioned, she's basically a fish and I'm not entirely sure that she's ever been specifically described as being one colour or another. I mean her roots are in Danish folklore, so there's a pretty good chance that HKA was imagining a white upper-half, but it's largely irrelevant.
Snow White's casting is slightly more problematic, since the character is explicitly described as having particularly fair skin, which leads me to believe that the casting in that particular instance is either the result of shoddy research or deliberate wokeism. Considering the decision to erase the Dwarves, I'm going to go with wokeism.
I wonder how they'll handle the lack of consent in the kiss scene...

Yeah, I mean at the end of the day it's nothing more serious than a poor casting choice.
I couldn't really give a fuck who plays Snow White. I certainly don't give a fuck that there are now black elves in Middle Earth (The Rings of Power has much, much bigger problems) and likewise, I'm not losing any sleep over Steve Toussaint playing Corlys in House of the Dragon. I can imagine some of the folk who actually read the books beforehand being a bit confused by the casting choices in both situations, but Elven/Velaryon skin tone is hardly a pivotal plot device.
The issue I take with all of this is probably just related to my inherent cynicism. I don't believe for a second that Disney are casting people of colour for 'traditionally' white roles for any other reason than some cheap publicity and some wokeist virtue signaling/box ticking.
Being able to change the race of the lead actors on the fly would make for an interesting study, mind. I wonder what percentage of viewers would choose a Hispanic Snow White or a Black Ariel over their traditionally White counterparts should they be given the option?

You know what would have been really good?
A prequel series set in the Alien universe dealing with the Weyland-Yutani corporation from an internal perspective. A bit like 'For All Mankind', but focusing on all the corporate malevolence that W-Y are so synonymous with.
You could still focus somewhat on the 'Capitalism BAD, Socialism GOOD!' woke bullshit without shoehorning it into the plot in such a hamfisted manner, and I reckon it'd be a far fresher direction than releasing yet another 'Xenomorphs, but different!' instalment into an already tired formula
David was by far the most interesting element in Prometheus/Alien: Covenant. There's so much potential to explore that side of things.
God forbid a story-driven feature becomes popular in this day and age, though. Apparently folk are already complaining that House of the Dragon is too slow...

The Boys already has the outright corporate malevolence angle pretty well covered. What I find more interesting is people doing bad things but with good intentions.
And I'll agree about David. There's a lot of good ideas in Prometheus, but they needed another couple of redrafts of the script to get rid of all the stupid. Thematically the film was closer to Blade Runner than Alien and really should have been handled as such.

i think that there's not much there is the reason, at least against old Joe. That the daughter was in rehab and was fucked up was public knowledge
compared to her other allegations that seem to suggest she was molested by the neighbours, "probably not appropriate" at being naked with her dad is kind of pissweak. My 11 year old would probably say the same thing when I wander around the house looking for my underpants. If the mainstream press, even fox news, wanted to try and make it more of it than it is, than it would also mean talking about a young girls uncorroborated private sexual abuse confessions unrelated to joe, and that's a fucking minefield for them

Agreed, there are a lot of variables as to how inappropriate it actually was.
It's probably not that inappropriate if your child is four or five years old (assuming you're not an actual beast). Becomes exponentially less appropriate as your child ages, though.
I mean, technically, it's only inappropriate if it's made inappropriate. But societal norms gonna societal norm.
That being said, like the Andrew groping debacle, it's open to a huge amount of interpretation. However, I think it's fair to say that if this was Ivanka's diary, the revelations would be plastered absolutely everywhere and are only being muted somewhat due to the fact that Biden isn't regarded as a pantomime villain by the majority and I suspect that widely publishing this stuff would only help to bolster the red team - which isn't really in anybody's best interests. Particularly at the moment.
There really is a serious 'Succession' vibe coming from the Biden camp, mind. Although, I suppose you could say that about any of those dynasties.
