Are really bonkers. If you did a Venn diagram of all the world's nutty stuff - homeopathy, zero point energy, real ale, fractional reserve banking, chem trails... Hifi buffs would be the dark spot in the middle of the intersection.

I confess I am into my hi-fi. The PWB stuff gets very off the wall, and I don't fully understand much of it, but I have a friend who swears by it (his hi-fi does sound superb though) I do know of another story told to me by another good friend (who doesn't make stuff up) who is a sound engineer and does stuff with mixing desks.
Anyway, he worked for Dave Gilmour once wiring up a mixing studio on his recording barge in London or somewhere, when a visitor appeared trying to sell some very special "moon dust" interconnects. They were just stupidly priced and as he knows his stuff (and physics and stuff) he grilled the salesman on exactly what was involved in the manufacture of these. He never received a satisfactory answer and I don't remeber if any were bought. I should ask him next time I see him.
Hi-fi can be proper mental.

The SD card they have at the top DOES actually offer real benefits over other SD cards though... but probably not to typical consumers.
This has been doing the rounds on reddit, and if anyone's stupid or gullible in any way it's the hoards of people, including the journalists who are lining up to scoff at it, who have assumed that the product claims to improve sound quality by "improving" the quality of the data being transferred (which WOULD be a ridiculous claim). This isn't the case though.
Sony's claim is that this shielded SD card produces less electrical interference that can cause ground loop noise problems.
Have you ever used a computer that, when every time you move your mouse, you can hear a faint buzzing sound through the speakers? Or a faint buzz every time your hard drive reads or writes something? That's ground loop noise and it's obviously not wanted in professional audio environments because, aside from having an annoying buzzing sound, if you happen to be recording on a system that has this issue the buzzing will be present in the recording too.
Just sayin...

I've been looking forward to pulling my super nice speakers out of storage.
I've been moving so much over the last 20 years, and living in places where speakers would be ruined, that they just sit idle.
My dad was an audiophile. And his taste in music was hideous, not unlike every audiophile I've ever known. I think it's their way of trying to find what they don't have due to a lack of knowledge and musical maturity, and I believe there is such a thing.

I have a storage van that I put a tiny speaker in.
A friend came over, and we laughed at how good it sounded. The whole van acted as some kind of perfect resonance chamber, and that little speaker was great.
It was funny because when we were just kids, he and I and another neighbor all got together and made huge speakers. Mine were smaller, but they sounded better. My friends were disappointed that these huge things that took up a portion of their room didn't have what mine did.
But it goes beyond that. I can get the context without all of the content.
Also, I have speakers everywhere. I used to have them outside, all over my property. I could walk around and always hear music.

Somehow I don't miss the high quality sound. I like to think that quality music is unrelated to quality of the sound.
I guess that's what lo-fi was all about. It was like they were thumbing their nose audiophiles.
We had a party in a backyard, and someone had these huge quadraphonic sound system speakers. They were so big that they had to tear down a portion of fencing just to get them in the back yard. It just seemed like a lot of work for very little return. Wild party though.

From Winston Spencer-Churchill's autobiography:
“When a year later I visited Boston, Mr Winston Churchill was the first to welcome me. He entertained me at a very gay banquet of young men, and we made each other complimentary speeches. Some confusion however persisted; all my mails were sent to his address and the bill for dinner came in to me. I need not say that both these errors were speedily redressed.”

I made this!
I've been making lots of 8-bit versions of characters from slightly nerdy things like Red Dwarf, Twin Peaks and Metal Gear Solid.

Kim Jong Un's Amazing New Haircut

The Great Dear Leader, he who points the way, has a mental new haircut.
"The style is a variation on Kim's signature shaved sides, but with the top now sculpted into a high, wedge-shaped pompadour that sits atop Kim's head like a hat, or perhaps a small, dormant woodland creature. The North Korean despot accessorized his new look with partially-shaven eyebrows that now stop just above his pupils."
BEHOLD
