not really a funny...
but i have been making this for my mrs for her birthday:
it's 'supersized' scrabble - we play a lot, so i decided to have a go at making a set (the super scrabble in the shops is £50 +, and just paper and plastic)
all plywood, over 200 tiles, plus my special B3ta '3' tile.
people like? should i use some coloured stains to paint in the 'special' spaces, or leave them wood colour.
plan at the minute is to just lacquer it.

I'd save the colouring in for after they sue you
it'll give you something nice to do in prison :D
nah man, nice, probably needs some colouryness.

more super through the number of tiles and extra spaces 21 squares each way, compared to 15 each way normally - plus new 'quadruple' spaces, and double the tiles.
the tiles are slightly smaller (about 1mm either direction), and the board is about 450 x 350 mm - being made of wood, you can't fold it in half!

You could have used hinges, innit.
You didn't think this through dude, didn't think it through at all! START AGAIN!

wouldn't sell them 'openly'...
and to be honest, i would want to charge in the region of £100, as a fair bit of time went in, and the wood isnt cheap (well, about £10 of plywood - it really needs another layer underneath it to firm it up.
i might layer it with opaque green perspex underneath of the deluxe visual effect.
also thinking of a 2mm layer of clear perspex to use as a kind of grid to hold the tiles in place.
oh, and i havent done any tile racks yet, or made a box, or a bag for the tiles!
it's her birthday on sunday - might have to give her the working version

That's fantastic, what a great present!
I think you should colour it.

Fantastic! :)
Personally I wouldn't use colours, it might look a bit wrong. But I would stain the wood on the special squares so they are slightly darker than the blank squares.

aaah, i like your thinking!
i might go for that option!
wonder if you can get spray on wood stain...?
(mokea man, a plan, a canal, panama!,

Not sure about spray on stuff but I know that wood stain colour is difficult to get right so make sure you practice on a cut off first :)
And it generally dries lighter than it is when wet.
And that concludes this session of everything I know about woodstain :) You probably know all this already.

I've been thinking about scrabble recently
was not aware that they did a supersized board.
I know the internet is around here some where and I could go check, but is there alternate layout for doubles and trebles? I get the impression that the standard layout makes for less interesting games than it is capable of.
It's a lovely idea, whatever you decide on, it'll look fantastic.

yep...
it's it's mostly the same, but there are an extra three rows extending out from each corner...
the four corners are now quadruples word scores, and there are also quadruple letters -and as i said earlier - 200 tiles compared to the normal 100. i'll let you know how it plays after sunday!

the plan is (thanks to prequal's suggestion) is to just use a single colour - if you can't work out your own score, then you aren't paying enough attention :)
as above, it's about 450mm x 350mm
i'll stick up some more photos once it's done. :)

Back when Salako was playing?
I was at the home game, fucking horrendous.
I went to a terrible cup game against Stoke a few years back too, me, my bro and his mate were just about the only people in the West Lower and ended up having a chat with Johnny Robinson during the game, after abusing him for about half an hour shouting "Oh, Chinny Chinny!" Good times! It was also that game when the physio first threw his now famous pie into the stands I think.
.. but my mrs is away for the weekend, meaning i have been left with the baby.
she is sound asleep, the housework is done, i have had a plate of ham egg and chips, and four chunks of toblerone. the beers are chilling, and the fire is on in the living room.
as cos' there are no women here, i can quite happily have a shit, while posting on B3ta.
doesn't get much better.

Can't you drive when you're 14 in some states of America?
I had no idea about South Dakota and Kansas. Though to be HONEST there isn't really much out there and if you DIDN'T drive it would be a hell of a walk.
Also, with those you still need an adult with you.
