it`s the live preview as you enter the URL and it starts trying to download everything as you type (I don`t C+P them usually) and it starts flashing like mad - sometimes flicks between the firefox redex (the pizza thing) and the image rapidly until you hit post, even though you`ve completed the URL
might just be something in firefox.. dunno

just while you're taking a break. And then only once. So it might be fixed now.
(And I missed a point in Caro's original post -- livepreview is an option in your profile, and even defaults to disabled I think?)
EDIT: okay, it's better than it used to be, but it can still update while you type. Need a better fix, I guess...

but about half way through posting gifs, preview kind of flashes and flickers, like it doesn't seem to know what's going on, this continues until you hit 'post this message' and it appears on the board all loverly. i can't recall it happening when i was running IE but in firefox it happens.

I just added the first ajaxy bit here and thought "hmm... that was easy... wonder what else we could use it for..."
But for there to be any point to this, you'd have to refresh just that one thread, rather than the whole page. And remember not to refresh if the thread had any reply boxes open. And fix up the zebra stripes afterwards too. And try to find some heuristic for when to refresh the whole page anyway. So tricky, but certainly doable.

just posting the reply via ajax and leaving the comment boxes visible on the screen, so you could rattle out a few replies without grabbing a full board refresh each time
.. hit refresh and everything`s back to normal
