It's not an image but some of you will thank me for this
as I was perusing though an old Computer Active Magizine at the doctors I came across this linkwww.freeserifsoftware.com/default.asp so go get your freebies for all those who don't have a vector package, a DTP, a Web-design package, a Photo manipulation program and a 3d prog. Good luck with your images ;)

Yeah, that'd be the other option.
But I swing more towards PHP nowdays anyway. I just suggest Dreamweaver because you can have a resonably nice site in a very small amount of time.

IIS (or PWS) comes with Win98 upwards
but if you want to cope with loads of users, you need to buy some form of MS Site Server licence, otherwise you get "too many users" errors
(
Reckless_Rik ,
Mon 11 Apr 2005, 11:57,

Too geeky for me I'm afraid
most of that went straight over my head. firstly what is IIS? What does it do? How does it relate to ASP or PHP? and what's this 'too many users' error?
(
maiden is filmed before a live studio audience ,
Mon 11 Apr 2005, 12:01,

IIS is Internet Information Server, a web server that MS gives away with the OS
- have a squizz under add programs -> windows components, and it supports ASP out of the box CD "too many users" is the typical error people get with MS servers as the admin can put a cap on the maximum number of requests so that the server doesn`t fall over; also if you don`t pay for a big licence, IIS is locked down to a max 25 (or something - can`t remember) simultaneous users - anything posted on b3ta would lock that up in seconds! you can get add-ons to allow you to run PHP on IIS too, if that`s your bent (PFFFFT.. bent) although PHP and Apache are kissy snoggy bed fellows
(
Reckless_Rik ,
Mon 11 Apr 2005, 12:07,

Oh right I see
so you can be your own Internet Server running off your computer, rather than relying upon your ISP running the code for you, is that right? But is there a danger of people having access to your computer directly?
(
maiden is filmed before a live studio audience ,
Mon 11 Apr 2005, 12:13,

yip, I run my web site from the bedroom
as for security, yep you`re right.. you have to have a good (not adequate) firewall, and a stable operating system / web server that you keep patched to the hilt!

You seem to be a right brainbox about coding and stuff
can you recommend a good quality PHP thumbnail gallery code that uses files to access the image/thumb locations rather than from a MySQL Database. I did have a working code for my php thumbnail gallery but I lost it when ny comp crashed and I can't remember how to re-code it see here for broken version It loads six rows of six thumbs using a file with the url of each thumbnail. Each thumb has the url to the actual image located in a second file, when you click either next or previous it loads the next load of urls stored in an array. Please help me if you can.

Dreamweaver is the dogs' whatsits
but this is aimed at those who have limited or no funds. Dreamweaver demo is okay but you have to not only learn it, but also build your site within 30 days. Unless you happen to have the crack - which I wouldn't know a thing about. \scarpers

(

30 days is enough if you already have an understanding or both

Please tell me you're not following those silly Americans in that ridiculous trend to spell things logically... Where's the fun in that?! (If I'd had the opportunity, I'd have used "fosforus" too, just to spite the buggers...)

Verily, 'tis woo.TJ: I'm trying to design an advert to go on my website. In an attempt to encourage more members to post, I'm giving away tshirts to those who reach a certain number of posts (or at least, my sponsors are). Thing is, the advert I've got running at the moment is long and wordy and a pile of shite. I need something snappy, but I'm fresh out of inspiration. Any people here with inspiration to share? Edit: The best I could come up with was to photoshop this chap into a tshirt, and give him the caption "Have you got yours?" But I don't like that - it's not an American forum.
