I was working with the assumption that the person didn't know how to optimise,
so rather than kill the board while they worked it out, it would be better to delete it; however, this wasn't necessary, so instead we get a picture of a dog... RIS?

I see. That's pretty cool. Any particular reason for a picture of a dog? If I were to engrave something on a mirror I'd probably go for something else, like an obscure film still, or 'Ce n'est pas un miroir' in nice curly writing.

I was asked for it. "A brindled Great Dane on Almuñecar beach". Mine is not to reason why.
"Hang on a minute, I think I've got a few of those out the back. You'd be amazed how often we get asked for that. We've started doing them in a range of tinted glass colours too, y'know, for the kiddies. They love mirrors etched with a picture of a brindled Great Dane on Almuñecar beach."

In the end, I had to steal the great dane. And it's no fun jumping over fences with a great dane tucked under your arm. But I asked afterwards, so all is OK. Here in spain, the heat drives a lot of dogs mental, so the spanish don't have anything you can't drop-kick over the fence.
Still nowt. Someone said earlier that you only get it if someone else has added you as a friend. I'm not really in the b3ta massive so that's probbly why.

A circle will be made up of about 4 points while a picture will have thousands of pixels. If there are lots of effects like gradients and glows etc on a vector it might get large.

not allowing toe software to make the selections and fill and stroke for you. Make your selections freehand on a separate layer and brush/fill by hand. Using the softwares default parameters to select and fill for you removes any creative freedom and control you have over the result.
(Pasanonic's been known to cause insanity in laboratory mice,

The tracing isn't really the point
It's the first step that I'm trying to get the hang of, to open the door to messing about with the vectored result
I've done some freehand stuff too, but for complex images I want to understand how to create the vectors with pure software so that I can mess with it subsequently.
(Doomladenms paint lover,
Tue 6 Nov 2007, 22:20,

I'm not criticising you in any way
just trying to lead you in a direction that you will have total control over your result rather than creating an image and wondering what you have to then do to alter it to something you might prefer. If you get used to working in a way that you are in control then it will speed up your process.
(Pasanonic's been known to cause insanity in laboratory mice,
Tue 6 Nov 2007, 22:22,

I know
I'm just trying to figure out how to get the software to vectorise a complex bitmap, but do it without showing the strokes. I can't seem to make it happen. Even if I reduce the stroke width to zero, zero the opacity, I still end up with stroke lines. It's driving me nuts.
For clearer, simpler images with stronger contrast within the colours, I tend to handtrace as you suggest. But for an image like this one it's really bloody hard to do, which is why I chose it for software vectoring.
