Examples of memes given in the book included melodies, catch-phrases, beliefs (notably religious beliefs), clothing fashion, and the technology of building arches.[4]

Meme-theorists contend that memes evolve by natural selection (in a manner analogous to that of biological evolution) through the processes of variation, mutation, competition, and inheritance influencing an individual meme's reproductive success. The right amount of separation. It works fine.
You just need to find something that stays still.

Look at www.grosse.is-a-geek.com/pcplus/hd271sd/hd271.html around half way down the page. There is an image pair there that has had movement between the two shots and how it is corrected/ accommodated.
