Good Morning Mistah Toats
Good Morning everybody
Today I are mostly converting old cassettes into MP3. I thought I'd need a special tape deck (like what my bro-in-law bought) but it works just fine with a lead and some free software.

I did this a couple of years ago. Put a tape deck under my monitor and just recorded away. Didn't have any specific software though. Sounds interesting. Not that I have most of the tapes anymore.

Yes, took me several months.
But I just popped a tape in there when I was busy doing other things.
Certainly, I missed a couple of song endings from time to time. But being able to do other things while it recorded away and occasionally rerecording a song more than made up for not having to sit around waiting for them.

I did this once for what was left of my old C90 John Peel recordings

Both are excellent - I have a Nikon D90 and bought an intervalometer to take timeplapse which I;ve done some nice rolling cloud sequences would love to do a lovely nightscape like your first image.

the first was 5 min, the second was 10 and the final one was half an hour
I then merged the exposures
Looking at the pic if the moon hadn't been in the shot I could just run it for an hour
the nightscape is easy, turn the camera to manual then the exposure to bulb and my remote has a lock on it to keep the shutter open

Basically yeah.
I think has something to do with the fact that your brain tries to make sense of the shading in terms of light direction, but since the shading is rotated in each component (suggesting an impossible lighting arrangement), the whole thing shifts visually as your mind tries to resolve the new shading information in a way that makes sense over the whole image. That's a guess, but if you work on that assumption in the way that I have right here, it does start to fuck up visually, so even if I'm wrong about the reason, it's not a bad approach.

As I was rotating the colour of the background the whole thing was shifting very alarmingly. Some colour combos seem to work better than others. I think colour plays a part in the illusion of movement, but I haven't really worked out how yet.
(mofaha┐( ˘_˘)┌ ʅ(́◡◝)ʃ,

I know a little about this.
You know your eyes have rods and cones? Well one of them does the edge detecting (usually by differences in luminance) and one of them does the colour detecting - I forget which way round it is. Now if you have two very different colours of equal luminance next to each other, your eyes have trouble deciding where the edges are. For example - impression at sunrise by Monet - If you turn this into a greyscale, the sun practically disappears. - The reason it seems so ephemeral is that your eyes can't be sure exactly where it is because they don't know where the edges of it are because the luminance of the sun and the sky against which it sits are practically the same.
(4Qjust lurking,
Sat 17 Sep 2011, 23:52,

Whoa
I just tried the Monet thing. It's hard to believe it's going to work because the sun is such an intense colour against the sky. But in greyscale it just looks like a vague circular indent in the canvas. Thanks for sharing this, I'm going to look into it further.
