Apparently, the name isn't directly associated with food. There were a bunch of 18th century dandy-types known for their rather flamboyant dress sense who were referred to as "macaronis" (although it is said that they had a liking for macaroni as well). The connection is supposed to be the bright yellow crest feathers sported by the penguins.

It's not so much having a new version
as bothering to try to learn something more than just the lasso tool.
I have CS3. I don't know what it has that 7 doesn't. I used 7 for quite a while but as you can see, I'm only just learning to do some proper stuff so I don't know if I've used anything that 7 doesn't have.
As a rough idea, for this pic I used:
Layer masks Fill or adjustment layers Noise and various blur filters Hue/saturation adjustment Inner & outer glow Transform Difference clouds Gradient overlay Various layer blending modes and a couple of other bits.
90% of that list is new to me.
The impressive bit will be if I remember what any of them do!
(AfinkawanYes I can hear you Clem Fandango,

Stunning end result......
I had a cs version, but my poor old PC wasn't up to the job of running it, so never found out what it did, 7 has all the things in you list...
I'm still learning the lasso tool myself ;-)

I was happy enough with 7
but the missus was determined to get a more up to date version for her photography. I don't know what it does extra but I think it was because most of the magazines she was reading showed how to do things in CS.
CS3 was cheaper than CS4 or CS5 by a LOOOONG way.
(AfinkawanYes I can hear you Clem Fandango,

The only thing I know for certain that it does do that 7 won't
And what I'd find really usfull is, it alows you to ajust the softness on the soft edge brushes which would be really usfull
(The invisable manIs having a long lazy soak in search,

Does it?
Must work out how to do that.
There's a 'hardness' slider on the brushes, perhaps it's that. I don't remember if that was in 7 or not.

Yeah did the all for a fiver thing.
I actually find it OK on the keyboard/mouse playing Vice City. Helicopter is a stinker, and I'm developing crippling arthritis in my keyboard hand, but otherwise OK.
