I have a theory.
Put any group of random students in a room together and they will talk about their childhood and tv and such and everyone who was little when that advert was on is around the age to be at uni. Thus I conclude that re-running that ad would prompt a massive increase in chewing gum sales for Wrigleys just from the nostalgia trip.
Edit: Im sure that we are both around the same age so I too was only young when it was on but remember it very vividly, as do most of my friends, some being able to quote the voice over word for word.

the blob of the cat's physique
suggests that you are suffering on the inside but do not wish to allow others to know, instead by using the cats to express these feelings you are able to allow others to subconciouslly pick up on this.
The pink in the cat's ears suggests femininity yet the contrast with the red eyes, suggesting manly danger points the bunny to your exploring side, trying to understand as much as possible in a friendly manner.
Their white complection suggest a fear of death and a love of purity and good souls. This idea is cemented in the smiles and the eye contact the two creatures are giving off, you understand their friendship.
