I read a great news piece which had the headline "Bird Deaths Solved"
and which went on to explain how they'd died from "trauma", but there was still no indication of how that occurred. Thanks for clearing that up.

The main stream doesn't have to be a stream of shite though.
I find it hard to see how far Whitehall has got without the help of daddy. Handy having an agent father. He has nothing. And as for McIntyre. ergh god I can't stand him. Every word is a waste of stage time. I can see the stage craft, I can see the timing. Not a word said worth the effort of listening. Man will you make use of that stage and say something. Watched Chris Rock last time. He may say the bit over and over for each joke. 3 jokes an hour may not be a high count. But at least each one has some sub text.

a NEW breed?
Nope. Morecambe and Wise used to get Eddie Braben to write most of their stuff. Bob Monkhouse started out writing gags for the likes of Arthur Askey, Jimmy Edwards, Ted Ray and Max Miller (all well in the black & white era) and also submitted stuff to Bob Hope. It's probably a more recent development to write all your own material as a stand-up (in much the same way as few solo singers used to write their own songs before the 1960s, and many still don't). it's still wank, but it's old wank

I'm not sure it's such a bad thing.
Like manufactured music, you sometimes get some great writers who use the performer as a puppet. There must be lots of good writers who don't have the confidence to perform, and that sort of comedian is a good outlet for their work. That said, I can't see how a stand up can take that much pride in delivering someone else's lines.

A great film from the 70's, genuinely creepy (and that's not just shatner's performance)
also a film which is perhaps actually worthy of a remake, as long as they use a majority of real spiders, and not 'too' much cgi
