# Yeah, Damon was a bit hippyish there
Wasn't their finest moment, though seeing Mick Jones sashay about the stage as he was reported to have done would have been worth the price of admission.
(, Thu 3 May 2012, 12:06, archived)
# Nah, it's mostly because Damon and Jamie have had a bit of a falling out
They sort of put their friendship on hold at the end of 2010 and Damon's been pursuing a number of other things, namely the Dr Dee opera, rekindling Blur for another album (reportedly, but it seems to waver between 'yes we're doing it' and 'no we're not') plus Jamie's working on more things other than Gorillaz art. Also Zombie Flesh Eaters who did the G character animations went belly-up last year and Damon and Jamie changed Management.

Mostly though, it's because EMI didn't make as much money from 'Plastic Beach' as they'd hoped, but since they did fuckall marketing for it, I'm not surprised, even though it's a brilliant album. EMI canned the 'Rhinestone Eyes' animated video which would essentially have been the next chapter in the whole story, and it just never got made, and made 'Doncamatic' instead, which was great for Daley, but not for Gorillaz.

Gorillaz were essentially 'on hiatus' when the Converse deal was struck and they did the 'Do Ya Thing' release with Andre 3000 and James whathisface, but at the moment, until Damon and Jamie kiss and make up and want to work together again, it'll be a while before we see anything new from Gorillaz. The Converse gig wasn't worth much when you consider Damon was said to be worth $40million just this week, he's not short of a quid. G fans are all hanging out for the 'P Sides' of Plastic Beach, but no sign of such a thing at the moment.
(, Thu 3 May 2012, 11:34, archived)
# Ta for clearing that up
Shame they didnt do music videos for all of plazzy beach, like daft punk did for that interstella film. I loved that
(, Thu 3 May 2012, 11:37, archived)
# I think that was the intent,
but animation is horrendously time consuming and exxy, hence them using CGI for more of the PB stuff, the dressing room vids, and the Converse thing, because once they've got the base forms programmed, everything else is just easy to add really. I like the traditional animation, but when time and money is a constraint, I'll take anything, these characters crack me up, although I couldn't care less for Noodle and Russel to be honest.

Boris or Ken?

I quite like our bumbling current mayor on comic value, but to be quite frank I simply can't find any ounce within me to ever justify voting for a Tory; the concept simply seems dark and repugnant. But Ken, I actually have grown to really dislike him. He seems wrapped by ego and some god given right to be London's mayor. Though I do approve of his pledge to lower public transport costs, which are obscene these days.

Edit: Have a macaw

Ken said "jews aren't any different to anyone else" and got condemned as anti-semitic for it. This makes me laugh, so Ken gets points.

# I'm from way up north.
To me, it matters little.

But we did have a chat in the pub about Boris on Friday, and we all reached the conclusion that people vote for him because of how bumbling and incompetent he is, because the public figure they're going to get fucked whoever they vote for, so it might as well be someone funny.
(, Wed 2 May 2012, 22:45, archived)
# Well spotted.
They are all awful, so I personally went for comedy value. I don't think I'll even bother this time.

(, Wed 2 May 2012, 22:52, archived)
# it may be worth bearing in mind
that the only two things the Mayor really has an influence on are transport and the police. The rest is down to councils or Central Govt, so ignore all the other bollocks and see who you agree with most on those two.
(, Wed 2 May 2012, 22:56, archived)
# I'll never vote blue
If you are on on a good salary and reasonably comfortable in life, it should be human nature not to be to miffed about a bit of extra tax you aren't really going to notice benefiting the rest of society.

(, Wed 2 May 2012, 23:09, archived)
# Jahled, it breaks my heart, honestly.
Millions died over the years for me to have the right to walk into a polling station and make my opinion count.
But Boris is a buffoon, and less funny than he was.
Ken is a slimeball.
Lib dems don't know the public at all.
Greens are insane.
UKIP has naff all to do with local government.
BNP are... well.
No matter what I vote, fares will go up, rent will go up and the standard of living will fall.
(, Wed 2 May 2012, 23:10, archived)
# Grim times
That seems like a fairly reasonable assessment of what's up. Poor old Brian Paddock seems quite likeable but his party well and truly lost the plot getting into bed with the Tories. I've voted Green once in my life as a protest vote, but not again; we would be left with a bit of pocket money after their taxes

# I'm not big on politics; it's theatre for ugly people.
It all seems rather futile, because let's face it, nobody voted for what we have now, a battered and bruised system that sort of resembles a government.

found it quite intuitive to use... pestered him into getting the touch version & it's a bit.. err touchy & maybe oversensitive.. only gripe is the pen forgets where you think you are quite a bit & bit of a lag to catch up/scrawls across the screen?

I got mine for a song (never used) on evilBay for AU$71, still in all the factory wrappers. It sat on my table for three months because I was worried I'd not be able to master it, but after setting up and taking the bull by the horns, I had a go and holy SHIT, I've never looked back. I've never drawn so much in my ruddy life as what I have with this Bamboo.

Congratulations, you are going to have SO much fun!

# both ego monsters...
but i still believe that at a basic level, kens motives are more driven towards people, while boris is driven towards shareholders and businesses.

boris has traded off of 'bumbling cartoon' as a career device, while ken is what he is. what you see is what you get.

as a londoner in exile, ken still seems to live and breathe london, while i'm not convinced boris actually breathes.

shame there isn't a viable left of centre alternative.

# from a northern choice tomorrow...
...i don't have the option of kicking the tories, as there isn't one for miles round sheffield. i do get to piss on the local lib dems though, who have a council seat to defend.

labour have put up a 21 year old student who is clearly looking to build a career in 'big' politics, from outside our local area so it feels like a miserable choice.

the green party candidate, the only other candidate with a hope, is a hippy with long facial hair, a track record of vegan activism and lead singer of a band called something like 'TreeBeard', and the 'socialist and trade union alliance leaflet reads like a mix of citizen smith and school newspaper.

it's all so disappointing, its made me seriously think about standing as an independent looking represent local micro issues.

all told, the most important thing to happen round here tomorrow is my wife and son coming home from hospital! makes the local machinations seem trivial beyond all calculation.
(, Wed 2 May 2012, 23:09, archived)

Politics in Sheffield are depressing. I was faced with a similar lack of options on my polling card. At the moment it seems to boil down to which one of these fuckwits would you least mind fucking you dry

I really really really hate him. He fucking nasal voice cuts me and I still remember seeing 100s of mayor of london poster on the tube everyday. Kill a newt every time i see him on TV. Its not about making London better. Life without Ken is better. I've hated him back from the GLC days. Its a vote against not him not for the other person. They are all cunts and I've never noticed much change during any government term.

From listening to cyclists, Boris seems to even have dropped the ball on that avenue. I'm an American, so I can't speak from experience. I can say that much of what happens in high up places has to do with how wealthy the people are that are telling them what to do. Us little folks don't have much leverage unless we organize. There's hope, maybe.
