sad news
people think b3ta is a waste of time, and it is. but making each other laugh is the best kind of wasting time and quite undervalued, and she did that for me

This really got me. It’s the best waste of time to make each other happy.

It's just gutting
Bees used to spend time chivvying me on and encouraging me, even though my gain might have proved their loss. She never needed to worry though, she had more talent than any of us. And the outrageous, fearless humour. And the fundamental distrust of authority. The very essence of a life lived well, albeit one that ended far too soon. I'm so glad our paths crossed.

I was thinking earlier...
...how she was one of those b3tans I was always a bit to shy to talk to, because she was funny and cool and I liked her stuff so much. I regret lurking as long as I did, if only because now I can't tell her that our paths did cross, a bit, and it meant something. Good old Mushybees.
(Speaking of which, dotmund, I found an old drawing you did of a seaful of brilliantly dopey fish sitting on my hard drive just now, and I still love it. Thanks for your art, too.)

The important lesson to learn here is to never fear the b3tans
They're probably more scared of you than you are of them. Like spiders. Or dormice.

except -T when he'd been drinking
he seemed scared of nothing and nobody.
but while we are on the subject of your art, you'll be pleased to note that I am singing "suspicious goose" most days as the picture is in my eye-line in my downstairs loo

Shit.
Mushybees was one the best. I’m generally upset.
Bye bye bees.

Bye bye bees.
It hangs opposite a picture of yours, which shows a spaceman on the moon.
You two are my favourite b3tans, but don't tell the others.
Oh. You two were my favourites. Fucking hell. I am not doing well today at all.

I've known Mushy as a username for a while
and always thought of her as a top tier b3tan, from my view as a one-time Nightshifter
Clearly a fucking brilliant person. What struck me was she had a distinctive style, humour and authenticity.
I have so much admiration for her knowing who she was and realising that. Who wouldn't be proud with that?
Seeing that photo a couple of weeks back, and seeing one part of that self-realisation peeled back has haunted me since seeing it. I had a weep at the indignity that cancer brings.
Fuck cancer. Fuck the Tories.
Thank you, Mushybees.

Young people I've known/met really oughtn't be dying
The only bright side to this news, is that it's encouraged me to visit here again.
I hope you've all been playing nicely while I was gone. Failing that, I'll settle for you being offensive cunts instead.

I only come back when someone's died
which is a bit depressing.
I may try an hummus soon to make it less so. ... for me, it'll likely make it worse for everyone else.

Been a long time since I made anything.
I may dig out the old laptop and see if I can remember how to use tattyswap.
I make no apologies for the awfulness of the results...

Rest easy b3ta person. Reminds me of when we lost Jessie (Nina) back in May 2010 and I suppose it also reminds us that we are not immortal.

terrible news :(
I haven't been on b3ta for quite a long time but had to pop back after hearing the news. Whenever I think back to when I posted on here regularly, Katie's artwork and humour is one it the things I remember - it's so sad she's gone :(

Bloody cancer
An ex work colleague of mine died of cancer two weeks ago. Last weekend, the husband of another ex work colleague succumbed to covid, but had cancer. I have a good friend who is currently fighting lung cancer, she's doing well but it will probably eventually kill her.
RIP Katie.
