(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:31, archived)
# Are you only 20?!
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:17, archived)
# Yep.
Deceptive eyy. It's the nihilism and bitter outlook on life that skews my age and supposed experience slightly.

I remember meeting someone for the first time, this was two years ago now, and they asked me what I did. So I mentioned that I hadn't done anything since my A-levels. They were really surprised because they thought I was 27ish. And this was before I even wore a beard...
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:20, archived)
# You do come across as a lot older.
When I say a lot I don't mean an awful lot, I thought you were my age, maybe a year older.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:21, archived)
# Even though i've told you I am younger than you by several years? Repeatedly?
Being youngish and a jaded bitter shell of a man is rather rubbish though. All the older bitter shells get the opportunity to have all the relationships and sex and experiences before hand before they rue society. I on the otherhand got lumbered with it young, of all the bastarding luck. Plus it makes you seem quite old.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:24, archived)
# Yeah I don't remember everything.
Although you don't help matters, you don't exactly act like a 20 year old all the time.

You need some of those shorts and a skateboard.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:26, archived)
# I don't think I've ever acted particularly young, although I fear i've probably started acting exponentially older as I age.
I only started doing Received Pronunctiation in the last few years. Although whether that makes me sound older or younger is up in the air, as my Received Pronuctiation voice is considerable higher pitched and less gruff than my natural speaking voice.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:31, archived)
# RP is an interesting one, it tends to up people's pitch a bit.
Although considerably easier when you like round here.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:33, archived)
# I've never really encountered anyone my age, or even vaguely near it, who spoke Received Pronunctiation.
So that meant my school was filled with the usual slangy idiots to feed off of. As such I had to completely manufacture the voice myself, which even more oddly came about through my own self consciousness and was an amusing and fairly charming way to be self depricating if I was nervous of something.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:38, archived)
# I learnt it at drama classes.
I meant live round here, also.

What did you base it on?
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:41, archived)
# Well I tried to immitate Flanders (or was it Swann) from a Flanders & Swann sketch/song.
But after failing to quite capture the BBC English, which is subtly different from normal RP, I sort of gave up mimicing accents for some time. Then I believe I watched all four series of A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Stephen Fry's speaking style and general verbosity just slowly bled into my brain.

I can do a fairly decent World War II fighter pilot/officer accent too. "Righto chaps, looks like we're in a bit of a sticky wicket here."
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:46, archived)
# I made the mistake of telling my boss I'd learnt it
and am now the voice of my company's out of hours system. It was horrible recording it.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:48, archived)
# *shudder*
Listening to voice recordings is horrible. And it really screws with your perception too, because it's hard to tell if you are doing a bad accent/voice or if you are just being thrown off by how awful your voice sounds generally.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:50, archived)
# I'd have been fine
I've done recording before, but only singing. The problem was the IT guy who was there kept making faces at me and generally being an arse.
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:52, archived)
# i naturally speak RP from school and i've spent the last 5 years trying to unlearn it
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:42, archived)
# Why would you do that?
Received Pronunctiation is brilliant. BRILLIANT!
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:47, archived)
# i can do it when i want to but i hate sounding like a twat...
(, Sun 30 Mar 2008, 0:51, archived)
# My sister's husband keeps bemoaning me, sodding northerners, for using obscure words.
Because apparantly it's just weird to use words he doesn't know, despite the fact that they'd instantly worked out what the word meant due to the context of the sentence.

Anyone who gets actually angry at someone for using the word comestible and makes them look it up a dictionary and then further go on to claim that it's not a proper word because it's 'not in common usage' is a complete unadulterated twat.

# In reality it doesn't, though.
If you have two devices connected to your computer it's only getting 240.
USB is bus powered, Firewire isn't.
(, Sat 29 Mar 2008, 23:27, archived)
# You can run a USB drive on USB 1.
You need the special cable that uses two USB slots.

Or you can buy a PCI card for a few quid and have the wonders of USB 2.

Data transfer rates would be shite though if you choose the first option.
(, Sat 29 Mar 2008, 22:19, archived)
# well yeah, it's the transfer rate that's the issue for me
trying to use a usb2 device for an itunes library for an usb2 ipod on a mac with only usb 1 means it's rather shonky
(, Sat 29 Mar 2008, 22:22, archived)
# I'd recommend buying a USB 2 PCI card and slinging that in there
and buying a cheap USB hard drive.

Probably still be cheaper than a Firewire drive.
