Actually I have some rather distressing news about Mr. Dicaprio.
My best buddy worked closely with him for a short time during post-production of a movie. The dirt is: he's professional, polite, patient, genuinely good at the technical side of the business, and is most decidedly not a dick.

I'd be quite surprised if the prat hadn't just pulled his own trigger first.
But I'm pretty sure 'belittling authority/power at every available opportunity' is a noble aim. And a very b3ta-compatible one.

*EDIT* And I'd be very worried about you if you relied on b3ta to help you form a solid judgement about anything at all, apart from whether squirrels ought to have fur on their nipples or not.

# its not me believing what I read I'm worrying about
it's this guy being suspended and investigated due to internet rumours which the Daily mail print as key witness statements
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 9:55, archived)
# Not a Mail reader meself, but to address your point seriously,
it's possible (probable, even) that clear evidence will be produced that the prat pulled his trigger first, and within a few days.
With the amount of video technology amassed at the scene, the details will be inescapable.
Unless there's an inquiry which delivers its findings in 2018.
However; the pic of the snarling taser copper is total b3ta-bait. As it might be to every highbrow political cartoonist in the land.
And this idea of "b3ta-judgement" is, I reckon, wobbly. People approach b3ta from all kinds of angles. Some get shouted down from time to time,
but always re-emerge. Or cease to bother.
It's possible that, after a few years, there's a community forming (you know this better than me). But there's a high turnover. Veterans getting sick of it, and new people who love it. Its values might change.

As an arch-b3tan yourself, perhaps you might like to call a summit meeting to revise the FAQs?

# The picture is a frozen moment, and not necessarily a great indication of the actual events.
At last report, there were two officers with tazers at the scene.
So it's 50/50 that he's our man.

But he was the first person I thought of when they announced that a tazer was discharged - he just looks like the kind of guy who'd zap another guy for fun..

EDIT: And I don't pretend to know whether or not the tazer was fired before or after Moat pulled the trigger. It's possible I never will.

(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 9:54, archived)
# again, not his firing a taser in question
its the suggestion that he is to blame for the gun firing as opposed to a legitimate attempt to disarm.
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 9:57, archived)
# The IPCC are investigating but contrary to what you might hear it's as a matter of procedure.
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:01, archived)
# Personally I think regardless of his role in the tazer-usage on Moat
the whole gurning to the camera shows a high level of unprofessionalism given the sensitivity of the siege situation. He should, if for no other reason, be brought to book for his childish gung-ho behaviour during this ordeal.

As for b3ta the whole gurning makes him a perfect meme to have the piss ripped out of him, Freebase is a very popular meme and that bloke didn't really do anything nearly as wrong as this Policeman other than have his photo taken during a rowing competition :D
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:23, archived)
# I'VE NOTHING AGAINST THE PHOTO!!! :D
although I didn't see it as gurning when I saw it, I read his expression more as a snapshot of a man talking or possibly shouting "get that fucking camera out of my face can't you see I'm a little tied up right now" :D
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:25, archived)
# pissage!

# This
Or possibly even shouting, "Get the fuck down, you stupid arse of a photographer. That bloke over there has a fucking shotgun". If he was trying to save the photographer's life, I bet he now wishes to hell that he hadn't bothered.
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 12:52, archived)
# Could it not be the case that
he was signalling to the cameraman his displeasure of their being in that location taking photos? Signalling that is, without taking the weapon off the dangerous gun murderer?

I admit, the facial expression doesn't exactly give that impression...but hey innocent until...and all that ;)
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:26, archived)
# Yeah I thought that too and looking at the expression of the non-uniformed man next to him it does
indeed look like that could be true. However, shouting and gurning to Photographers is not exactly tactful behaviour given the situation and more like to provoke a negative response that a bunch of prats with cameras looking for that Front Page shot, it also shows the lack of control the Police have in securing the area.
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:34, archived)
# nah, I get that,
but I'd rather they were concentrating on the task at hand,
rather thatn thinking about what they look like in front of a cameraman.

although you can't guarantee impartiality from all police officers all the time either, so I'd defend the press in their right to take the pictures too.

again, it's going to be down to how the humans involved respond to the moral necessities at the time; although external pressures like "getting the scoop" sometimes outweight morality in the case of the press, occasionaly the police murder black people. it's swings and roundabouts.
/note sarcasm in the above statement ;D

(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:44, archived)
# From the photo, I dont think you can tell if he;s pulling that face for the benefit of the camera or not.
As for memes, I think theyre all shit - the b3ta equivalent of catch-phrase based comedy.
(, Sun 11 Jul 2010, 10:29, archived)
# No like I said above, I do think the gurn was caused because he was shouting at the cameraman
but really he could have controlled the situation better by quietly radioing for some uniform to come in and pull away the prat of a Photograher.

# Please excuse my cynicism:
The pics in your profile don't look mouse-drawn, to my untrained eye they look like photos traced then filtered.
How do you do this?

in so far as i use a photo to work from. I'm not ashamed to tell you the source of this one.

# hair
is a pain in the arse. i did this recently for a friend (hence not posting the whole thing, i doubt she'd appreciate that) and gave up even trying to do it properly and used a fake comb brush on gimp instead. i like how it came out.

edit: this *was* virtually a straight trace. a wide range of brushes and shades of grey and all, but still a trace. i'm not in the slightest bit ashamed.
