it's an average-ish (and moderately entertaining) sf drama set in a marginal and isolated human colony, suffering from increasing factionalism. With added pointless and annoying spooky nonsense, because clearly the makers are too cowardly to try making their set-up work properly on its own merits.

So here's my latest creation...

Because it's fairly big, here are links to two other views of it:

One

Two

I call it the Scrap Box, because the front of it is made entirely out of leftover bits of glass from various projects. The sides are some extra pieces I had from this, made because I wanted a few spares (which really means that at one point I lost count).

The box is attached to that board by means of a square of copper strips that were pieces of scrap copper someone had given me a while back. The board I had to buy, cut and router the edges on, and it's lit by a puck-type compact fluorescent light. I put a hanger on the back of it that is actually a part out of an old piano I helped dismantle, but I'm also putting on feet so it can sit on a table if desired.

And NOW it's time for beer. Going downtown to Capitol Alehouse to see That1Guy perform. Woo!

# Not living room centerpiece
but a table centerpiece. The wood base is 16" on a side, so it would fit on a larger dining room table.

# My initial hyperventilation is subsiding now.
Sorry for hot-headedly dissing your perfectly OK stuff.
But why spend so much time making stuff that looks exactly like the garbage on the walls of ponce pubs?
(, Sun 27 Feb 2011, 23:51, archived)
# No prob.
I can see where that might have been mis-read. I should have been a little clearer.

Do the pubs really have that much self-lit stained glass in them over there? It's not very common here.

recycled. made something that looks nice. and if nothing else he can almost certainly sell it to a pub apprently. i think he dun good.

And now it'll probably be a few weeks before I post any more creations, as the next projects are still in the early stages.

# This is a thing of absolute beauty......
Very art deco in feel, to my mind anyway, and if it's are deco I love it....!!
Ironic in a way, that it is made out of the scraps of your other projects, because I think it is the best one you've made so far... :-)
(, Sun 27 Feb 2011, 23:34, archived)
# Thank you!
The thing that was the worst part of this one was foiling all those bits. But I've ordered a gadget that holds the foil roll and applies it to the glass evenly, so the next one will be far less of a pain in the arse to do.

I've got enough scrap bits to make another one of these all ready to go. The only thing I might need to buy is some copper strips.

I think I might have said that to a woman one night...

(Or something close. 'Sokay, I got laid anyway.)

Seriously, though, thanks. I like to post things like this here so I can get unbiased reactions from people who don't have a personal relationship with me.

I have the gallery owners to ask for advice. In truth I only have about $30 in materials invested in it, so it's mainly my time at this point.

...But seriously, it's pretty "meh"
I think the whole thrust of it is totally dependant on you describing the process and the backstory, at first glance without the info it's a bit boring.

Is it boring to you lot over there? How so? Not being angry or defensive, but genuinely interested as I haven't seen much of this sort of thing over here. I thought I was onto something reasonably original. Has it bindun over there lots?

# Blimey that's brilliant!
I like abstract art :) Also, I don't know what some of the other people are on about, I live in the UK and haven't seen anything done like that before. How did you do the sides btw?
(, Mon 28 Feb 2011, 6:21, archived)
# The sides are pieces
of handcrafted glass from a smallish factory in Pennsylvania. They're this pattern:

I use the copper foil method and soldered the ends together to form the box, then lay the front on top of that and soldered it into place.

# I really, really like this.

# i like that
and i can't tell from the phot whether ther light source is evenly spread to give uniform light, or a sigle point of light that would create different levels of illumination overall. But I think that either would be good, so.

the only small niggle is the visible screws and untidy-looking leadwork attaching the piece to the backboard
