The two are pretty well entirely unique.
Watch the film - it is absolutely excellent. Very different from the book - it stands alone, almost as it's own story (hence King and Kubrick falling out about it).

Oh yes, I watched the video. Even though the demonstration was all digital, I applied the same techniques using real brushes and paint.
