Thomas Becket was murdered on the altar steps of Canterbury Cathedral by 4 knights who had misinterpreted an unguarded comment by King Henry II.
I suspect that all it would take to see some poor unsuspecting soul torn apart limb from limb by hordes of his fans, would be an misguided quip from Mr Beiber.

The BBC news website can be a bit weird btw.
If for some reason an old story gets to the most read bit (mostly happens on a Sunday) it stays up there for quite some time as more and more people click on the link and keep it there.
It happened time and time again with a story about a African chap who was forced to marry a goat after being caught bumming it. It happened mid-naughties and hit the most read for several years.

The whole 'Big Society'
thing is bollocks. It's the most dishonest name for a policy ever. It's basically the economics of Milton Friedman and Thatcher - the idea that if the state stops providing things, markets and individuals will provide it instead. It is absolute nonsense.
How they can play something up as a positive policy for society when it's basically saying -'You're on your own - sort yourself out' is disgraceful. Most likely, of course, it's because even if they didn't believe that it would work, nearly everyone in this government is rich and always has been.

The whole big society policy is that most things will be handed to the people to run, as he was saying, that state stops providing any input into local autorities and such. Saying tha they should be run by the people.
Its packaged as a good idea but in my opinion its a complete joke and would do nothing more than damage the organisations its pruports to improve for many reasons taht are far too long to go into in one post!
One thing that is good about the coming year though is I'm a photographer in london, stuff on fire looks great in pictures*....................

So people's personal actions
and what they find acceptable ethically in their own lives has no connection to their broader politics?
The fact that they think this sort of thing's okay has no connection to them thinking that a free for all with reduced state intervention is okay?
(Although, admittedly, it was meant as a reply to the below, but the point stands!)

This makes a lot more sense as a reply to the last link.
I would have just stuck with that rather than struggling to make it fit.
The way the Conservative party raises funds has to appeal to people that give the Conservative party funds, it doesn't have to reflect their policies, not that we have a Conservative government anyway.
As for criticising politicians for their personal actions rather than their professional accountability, personally I'm against it.
I think the coalition has been doing a pretty good job so far and that the cabinet (I can't speak for the idiots that make up the backbenches) have remained remarkably principled and coherent throughout an unexpected and unique set of circumstances.
I totally agree that this stupid fundraiser is horrible and degrading but please don't use it as an opportunity to deride a collaborative project for which a lot of politicians have risked their careers and the future of their political parties to help undertake. Big Society is pretty much hated by the old-school of the Conservative Party, its ridiculous to criticise it for being the creation of that party and its association with that party.

I try not to judge people according to labels
Saying that people are racist and homophobic because they belong to the Conservative party is inconsistent with the way I assess people and in fact with my personal experience of Westminster.
As for their political views, I may not agree with them but I don't count them as hateful as making value judgements about people based on ethnicity, sexual preference or political ideology.
Never apologise for arguing on the internet though, I of all people can take it.

"encouraging huge fuck off debt"
THAT YOU DIDNT HAVE TO TAKE:
"allowing debt companies to push debt"
How much debt are you in AVAST, and who is to blame except yourself?
lets just cut to the fucking chase shall we....

there are people out there who aint bright, cos education has been on a 30 yr decline, and these people don't properly understand how this stuff works. is it ok for them to be conned/ripped off/led into debt by banks, companies etc etc? and who governs the regulatory climate in which this is done? the government.

actually most of the people i'm talking about who weren't stupid enough to take on personal debt fall into the group you just described...

i aint a tory mate ffs
after 17 years of education cuts to state schools and laws designed to help priviledge private schools i am hardly gonna vote for them. However labour have ran up a fucking massive debt, and used the odious PFI system to suck money off the poor to give to the rich. e.g: £11 billion of hospitals will cost $65 billion over the next 30 years

Totaly agree
PFI is a travesty. You should join the Labour party, there are alot of members that would agree with you. Its only by getting involved that the majority progressives can stop the rightwing of the party getting control. I mean look how close it was between the Millibands, one side of the party vote for what they want the country to look like, the other half vote for what they think the fictional 'middle england' want the country to look like. The most unpopular policies of Labour were the right wing ones, yet we still get a Tory government who end up being worse. Something needs to change, and it starts inside the party as far as I'm concerned.

How do you buy a house
without personal debt? I had a nice job (10 years or so), I got married and we took out a mortgage. Then my partner went to prison so to keep my home (why should I lose it? I had done nothing wrong) I had to pay all the bills where they had been previously shared. I took on two extra jobs, and just got by.
But then I got made redundant from my main job. The redundancy just carried me over until I managed to get another job, less money. Three years later: redundant. I got another job. 5 years later? Redundant. This time, finding work was even more difficult so I took what I could. I ended up a qualified areospace engineer working in a clothing warehouse... that is, until I was made redundant. Now I run a charity and the council have just announced a 30% cut in our grant.
What I'm getting at is although I have worked hard all my life and have never signed on or claimed a benefit, I am still up to my ears in debt. There wasn't really any other way to survive.

I hope your attitude is the same when you suddenly lose your job and can't get another that pays nearly as much and you discover that your income does not balance the books and your mortgage is now too large to pay but you cannot move as the housing prices have dropped.
Some people take on massivly large debt on cards for things they dont need, and they are idiots, but some just do what they need to to live and get screwed by circumstance.

I have savings. I spent the last 10 years paying off student loans, loans i took while being a student, and expenses I ran up while starting my career and moving to london. Now I'm well into the black again...So i can put a deposit on a house.....
..and be more in debt than I've ever been in my life.

I'm a Labour member (as probably mention too much on here) but agree to an extent.
Its not something that was isolated to New Labour though, this is a process thats been happening for a long while, ask your parents or grandparents about high purchase, the 'never ever' (never ever pay it off) and the boom in consumerism in the 50's. Instead of actually sorting out a fair pay scale (which would benefit everyone across class bounderies to my mind) debt was the way governments could artificialy boost growth etc, its nothing new. I think why its become more acute these days is because wages have begun to stagnate, the job market doesnt allow people to easily find new higher paying jobs. So yeah, Labours been part of the problem (alot of it down to Tory Blair, and Browns fear of moving back to the left) but its not all down to them. Im gonna sound like a complete idiological pinko idiot here probably. But this isn't going to change until theres legislature to encourage lowest wages to be in proportion to the highest wages in any company etc. Raise the wages of the lowest earners whilst 'marginally' reducing the wages of the highest earners (change the tax bands as well) you'll get sustainable growth and everyone will become better off. Obviously complicated to implement, but surely it should be an aim?

But it was happening all over the place. The US has massive personal debt too. And it certainly wouldn't have been any better with the Tories in charge.
But yes - Labour bear some of the blame.

first issue that stands out for me is,
The comparing of average daily savings per person vs how many cash machine transactions per day, they are 2 different figures, 530 million is in smaller figures below, divide that by the current estimate for UK population (61.8 million) which I'd assme is how they have done all of their "average person" estimates. This gives a per person average of £12 per person.
372 people declared bankrupt ever day, or to put it another way, 0.0006% of the population, I'd hazzard a guess that its not mush more now than its ever been.
Also, I would like to know whether the averages are mean or median averages? Both will produce very different results, to get a true reading you would need to also work out exactly how many people owe money, even if its just a fiver overdrawn, then work out a true average from there.
I don'y deny that personal debt is a problem but to atribute it to any one individual (be that a political party or a person themselves) is a sweeping generalisation and not adressing any of the underlying issues.

Some of that appears misleading...
29,875 owed by each adult? Only until you read further where it says "in a debt management program." I suppose you don't go into a debt management program if you only owe 500.
I also wonder if some of those numbers include mortgages (see Average UK Household debt).

Astronomy sounds dead easy
I love the casual way they describe how to detect it -
"You would have to modify (the telescope arrays) slightly - probably only through software, and then you combine the signals in a way that's never been done before," he explained.
"If we are lucky, we should see the twisted light stand out, and then we open a bottle of champagne or two."
Sounds easy enough. Can I have a go?

Interesting article about the privitisation of water in the usa. Although us-centric, the first part (about the disaster capitalism) is exactly how i feel: all the credit crunch and debt problems are our shock, so we let the corporations take over and run everthing.
"California's treasurer just announced that the state may need to begin issuing IOUs if the governor and legislature can't close the budget gap. And California's not the only place that's hurting. The Great Recession, hit not only businesses and individuals, but governments as well. The National Conference of State Legislatures estimated that 31 states are facing a combined shortfall for fiscal year 2011 of nearly $60 billion.
So, what's being done? "Cities and states across the nation are selling and leasing everything from airports to zoos -- a fire sale that could help plug budget holes now but worsen their financial woes over the long run," the Wall Street Journal reports. "California is looking to shed state office buildings. Milwaukee has proposed selling its water supply; in Chicago and New Haven, Conn., its parking meters. In Louisiana and Georgia, airports are up for grabs.""

The ending made me vom
I am a cyclist, and I think most cyclists are cunts. I also think they wa drivers treat cyclist is extremely cunty. I AM THE ONLY NICE CYCLIST IN THE UK.
I stop at lights, I illuminate my bike when its dark and if I am hyper prepared, I wear a high-vis, I try and leave room for cars to pass whenever possible and I use cycle-paths even if they are twice as long a route.
I have still had taxis extend their steps at lights as I am going past to try and trip me up, and people attempting to injure me for no reason other than they are utter cunts. Presumably they would do the same if they were walking and happened to be carrying an offensive weapon that could easily kill or maim.
I pay my road tax, and I happen to be aware that the money raised by that has no correlation to the upkeep of the roads. I happen to believe that a bicycle will make nearly fuck all difference to the condition of the roads.
I don't wear lycra unless I am doing at least 80 miles, and even then I only wear it so I don't get scabs and mad rashes for the rest of the month. I certainly don't wear it to upset white van drivers.

I commute to work by bike
And every day, I get cut up by a mum driving her kids to school or a white van pulls out in front of me from a side road or a BMW driver speeds past then cuts in front of more someone walking across the road on their phone. The common factor is people. People are cunts.

It's easy:
F : Fart. Can they break wind without shitting themselves?
A : Arms. Are they still attached or fallen off?
S : Smell. Do they smell funny?
T : Trousers. Have they fallen down?

They use this test to establish if you are really hearing impaired of faking it.
The number one thing to fuck up your speech pattern is to hear your own voice with a bit of lag.

Hilarious.
And it's clearly a mic delay that's feeding back into her ear. You should try speaking while listening to what you said a second before. I'd forgotten all about it until I saw someone remind me about it (I used to do hospital radio)

Actually I know what you mean...
...I was doing some voice recording the other day, and left the feedback on, so I had an echo (pitched up quite a bit) for everything I said. Completely puts you off.
That said, if you can't work alongside the quirks of broadcasted reporting, then either get some more practice, or find another employment niche. Or better yet just keep giving us hilarious videos.

she was checked out by Paramedics on the scene and got a ride home with a friend. She's fine. They always add random shit into events that didn't happen.
