(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 12:34, archived)
# I remember the name but nothing more
so it might have been just before my time.

Stig of the Dump, I remember reading the book of it when I was young but I think I just missed the telly series. Which is a pity because it would have been brilliant.
(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 12:35, archived)
# It was brilliant...
Was just thinking about my childrens books after seeing how Hollywood has raped fantastic Mr Fox....

the characters, the whole design. But I did have suspicions when I read about new characters and "new dimensions to Fox's children"..

# Totally ruined it...
Took a good book about a fox stealing to feed his family and defending his home against the tory land owners to "chicken run 2"

oh and made him american...

I particularly loved the diagram of his tunnels digging into the three cellars.

I might watch the film anyway, and then spend about 20 minutes reading the book...
(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 12:54, archived)
# The tunnels drawing...
Yes I used to spend ages looking at that picture.

Must buy this book again I think...

# we had to read Z for Zachariah at school
and watch the dodgy 1984 produced film... it was about a valley in Wales surviving a nuclear holocaust because it had its own micro climate. The lead was a teenage girl, then this bloke in a radiation suit comes in with a rifle and tries to rape her. Another one of those feel good nuclear films of the 80s, needed a soundtrack by Limahl to cheer it up really.
(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 12:55, archived)
# I had to do that at school as well
must have been on the curriculum. Scared me witless for literally years.

I was watching it with a Brazilian friend of mine and we came to the conclusion that there aren't very many racing circuits left in Formula One, and Interlagos is basically the only one that's almost unneutered.

Living close to Hockenheim and all, the horror of modern Formula One circuits and how they'll rip their balls out to make another succession of slow corners that you cna't overtake on, speaks loud around here.

That was a *proper* race. I much enjoyed it.

BLESSED NEWS From the Jack Dee interview in Metro this morning: "There are some bonkers (celebrities), like Brian Blessed, who is is lovely but mad. I was filming in Epping Forest and he turned up, got out of the car, gave me a hug and said: "Jack, great to meet you! Look at these beautiful trees! I have to meet these trees!" Then he disappeared into the forest for two hours. He eventually came back as if it was all perfectly normal and said "I gave a tree a big hug.""
