Although, I suppose its one of those things they have to do, because you should never ever underestimate the intense stupidity of the general public. No doubt someone, somewhere has been sued because someone burnt their lips on a piping hot cup of coffee....

(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 10:00, archived)
# which did
in fact cause severe burns to her lips.

which is pretty normal, considering a good cup of coffee is served at about 85-90 degrees, and made at a nice 95 degrees.
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 10:02, archived)
# Although,
Macdonalds had been warned that their cups were unsafe and had chosen to ignore it, several other people had already been badly burned, the coffee was actually considerably hotter than any cup you might make yourself because the design of the cup kept all the heat in - and basically, she had every right to sue. There are more than enough genuinely frivolous lawsuits around without building up urban legends around ones were there was a good reason for it. Oh, and she got nowhere near 13 million.

# have you seen the 'next generation' of frisbee?
you can throw it up to 2 football pitch lengths... the X-zyLo

# Who can be arsed to fetch it after that
It might be okay if your friend has bad B.O. then 2 lengths of a football pitch is about right.

EDIT: eeeep, now who's the stupid one?...I can't even spell 'if' ;)

# hehehe
edit: I was discussing that with the reverend actually, about how we should have specific anti troll enforcers. Basically mods, but without the power to FP anything. Just edit and delete, and itd be our job to collar wankpots, and then put it to the board as to whether their posts should be deleted or not...
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:04, archived)
# mods could do that anyway,
and some trolls make some surprisngly good points and give good discussions, it's when they post goatses we worry
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:08, archived)
# yeah, well thats what i mean about putting it to the board.
if a thread gets well developed, then keep it, even if it is a troll, but if its the same person quickly posting bollocks things, then have someone on hand to sort it out. And yeah, I came to the conclusion that it wouldnt happen anyway, cos there are plenty of mods.

however, I still think they should make either you, me or kitty a mod to police the hours between about 2-7ish...
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:11, archived)
# most mods are,
to be fair, more aged and experienced than us, but if you feel there's a good point there, there's no harm in emailing cal
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:13, archived)
# I don't really want to be a mod
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:14, archived)
# Oh for gods sake
what is a mod anyway?????
( morning )
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:34, archived)
# a moderator
they're the ones that fp things and that delete nsfw stuff.

# My dog has just ate
have a bowl of chilli sauce and still wants more!...

Sorry, had nothing to do with that post, I just thought it was impressive!

In a related note, I see your point there! Could be a good idea. I know most mods spazz back to see some pictures they've missed and front page them late...but that doesn't get rid of trolls, sometimes there's just no one around to edit/delete their posts and it's annoying as fuck. Have you emailed Rob to discuss this to see if certain people can be given this "power" for a trail time, see how it goes, see if people can be trusted and so on, and see if the place becomes fluffyer?
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:11, archived)
# no.
I would feel kind of stupid trying to tell him how to run the place. Its nothing to do with me afterall. it was just a thought I had earlier. It was more to with the fact that the nightshift is more active than it ever was these days, but we dont always have mods about.
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:13, archived)
# There is a late night mod
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:13, archived)
# I don't really pay attention to
who's a mod and who isn't...some make it more obvious than others. I know Spacefish and Fnord are about at night, sometimes lurking...but I never pay that much attention.
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:16, archived)
# I know who a few of them are
but I think it works better when people don't know
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:17, archived)
# people like kimbo
are on different time zones so sort out late nights

# i received that yesterday
must have been a wrong number :)
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:05, archived)
# i got that today ...
but i was smart...i pushed the X button :)
(, Wed 24 Sep 2003, 7:08, archived)
# really though
if we had all just ignored them, they wouldn't have come back today

/guilty

# true,
and feel free to blame me for that, cos I do like a good argument with people....
