thats a shure pg58 not a sm, and its the 58 that has the nice boost around 2k for vocals the 57 is flatter around there with an extended low end down to around 40hz, where possible i use the beta version of the 58 for live female vocals but i'm using a sennheiser e865 more and more these days when i trust the people i'm working for.

# 1) bollocks that an SM
2) if you want to be a pedant you think the vox for the M People was done with anything else than a Valve mic (if memory serves correct I think they used studio A at Abbey road so the chances are they used one of their Neuman U32s).
3) What use is 40k on a female vox?
4) I don't think I've worked in a profession studio that used either SMs or PGs as a vox mic and I'd say most people use the PG range as drum mics.

On a lighter note: Anyone going to be down the Wytchwood festival this weekend as I'm down there doing guitar tech and FOH.

and besides, hide is for something you find personally offensive
NSFW is an actually B3ta rule, i shouldn't have to
go out of my way to avoid something not allowed on the board
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:01, archived)
# So you would rather have a moan and get fired than click a button?
It is a rule, yes, but until a mod comes and removes it (which hasn't happened yet...), wouldn't it just be sensible to click hide?
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:07, archived)
# i'm losing my patience with you
even if i do click "hide" i'd still have to scroll past the NSFW
image in the first place, the rule is there for a reason

i don't want it on my screen, and if it was just
me over reacting to say a rape joke i found offensive
because i was raped by the cast of Cats, then yes, i'd click hide
but out of principle i wont be clicking hide on NSFW

imagine if i did, imagine if we all posted porn and just said, fuck it, if
you don't like it hide it, this board would go to shit
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:11, archived)
# Well, to me, it just sounds like you want to have an argument.
The mods are here to police the site. If an image is NSFW in their eyes, they will remove it. If you don't think they are doing their job, then feel free to moan at them too.

Of course, this all comes back to the old forum-saying of "If you don't like it, leave".
If you are afraid of seeing something NSFW, then don't come to a site which could feature it, whilst at work.

I'm sure there people out there, waiting for your to click on hide, just so they can go "Right, quick, he's clicked hide, post all your NSFW images now!".
The tools are there to avoid the images. If you want to view the site without using them, then you have nobody to blame but yourself.
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:17, archived)
# be fair
we police ourselves mostly and if just one membersays that is NS for his workplace then arguing will just cause a row. It's polite to link things if asked.
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:20, archived)
# But what happens when the person doesn't link it? The mods don't remove it?
Will the magical fairies take it away? No.
Then it would be up to the person who could lose his job to take matters into his (or her) own hands. Not bitch about it and keep coming back to the thread to bitch more. Just move on.
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:24, archived)
# No, we just all shout like fuck
until the offender realises that he'd better change it.Nobody should have to have anything remotely NSFW on their screens even for a second. Simply saying "fuck you, it does not bother me so if you don't like it don't look" is selfish.
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:37, archived)
# no
i blame Occulus

and i wasn't looking for a fight untill you goaded me with your don't like it hide it philosophy.
i've been here years, and we police ourselves,
yes there's mods, but they have more important things to do
like keeping the site running, i wont be bothering them

so to cease an end to the "argument" i'll just click ignore on the both of you
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:20, archived)
# The first sensible thing you've done so far.
But seeing as you ran away from the argument you started, I'll take this opportunity to call you a imbecile who cares more about arguing on an internet forum than his job.

Many thanks for bringing this to our attention. The offending member
has been warned that this has to stop immediately, all existing threads
where he has done this have been taken down, and he has been made aware
of the consequences and actions that will ensue if he does it again.

# i like the way he says they don't imply they own the images
and yet, they still use them
and what is tagging soemthing if it's not "implying ownership"
isn't that what you're doing when you sign your name on something?

he talks of ignorance, i can only see one ignorant fool

it only takes 2 mins to send a PM
that leaves plenty of time for a real life

Actually by removing the original tag on the images and adding your own you are under copyright laws claiming direct ownership of the images you take. By which you are in complete infringement of international copyright laws and therefore putting IPC media in the direct firing line of prosecution and violating the terms and conditions you agreed to when you created your account on this forum.

I think if you try asking the owners of the images, most of them will be more than happy to let you use them.

# Can someone explain...
Aren't most images that we do on this site based on existing images? So by shopping an existing image, tagging it, and reposting it, isn't that really morally/legally just as bad as what JohnX1's doing? So aren't we just as bad?
(, Wed 30 May 2007, 11:23, archived)
# the existing images are either in the public domain
or our own. Some of us even create our stuff from scratch without a picture. When you spend hours collaging something together from existing images and create something new you have the right to claim it as yours. The argument with idiot boy over there is the fact he removes peoples tags and adds his own. This got him a slap.

# There is a subtle difference
There was a video posted on /links a little while back explaining copyright law using disney characters. If you use something for parody or teaching it counts as 'fair use' which is a leagally defensible position. So they can't sue you.

What he has done is just taken someone elses work, not made his own parody.
