I was working on a painting a while ago of princess Toni with a burning crown above his head as he's showered by gold coins thrown from above by cherubs and angels.
Either side of him he's flanked by two buff soldiers wearing nothing but bulging jockstraps and helmets in a landscape of a bombed out iraqi city. In the foreground I have an Iraqi mother nursing her dead child. It was very cathartic to say the least. I was planning on sending it to the new statemen but I prob won't now. I'll post it here when I finish it

And they interviewed this guy, examined his fuel bills. There was obviously something else on his mind when he was worrying about his payments. I had to look it up.

I remember when I was a student I got a final demand from the gas board. We had a key meter.
On top of that they threatened to cut is off it we didn't pay the amount in full. So I went up to the British Gas shop (yes it was in the days when such things existed), showed the woman at the counter the final demand, the amount due, I put 2p on the counter, told her to keep the change and marched right out.

I used to spend
alot of time making calls on behalf of clients to agencies like this. And it never ceased to amaze me how effective a polite attitude (or a bit of flirtatious charm) got when negotiating paying their debts off. They're just humans in these companies after all, they will always reasonably negotiate (most times)
also water utility bills, no matter how much threatening they do, cannot cut you off for non payment - it's a basic human right. just sayin' ;)

A lot of people know this
Someone from one of the water companies told me that most of the people who owe them money are not poor people struggling to pay, but loaded people who just refuse to pay their bills.
when I lived in less-than-fragrant West Kensington, my room had a phone socket, which I used for dialup - the first bill came and there was no dialup usage on it. So I checked and found it was a completely different number to the main house phone...so I kept using it expecting them to cut it off, and they never did, so someone must have paid for 18 months of my internet. Bargain.
I hope it wasn't anyone here

I was really impressed when a friend of mine moved into a flat in West Kensington about ten years back
then I went to stay with him and it was a right dump. He moved up to Holloway Road and it was much nicer, at least until Arsenal moved in over the street.
I've been to many a gig there at the Nashville Rooms in the 70's
My mate used to live a few doors down from there and if there was a long queue that used to stretch past her front door, we'd managed to join the queue by leaving the front door and merging ourselves with it.
We saw many a top act but for the life of me I cannot remember any of them except Elvis Costello.
Happy days
