Anyone got a Canon G7?
I have some video footage I can watch, but nothing I use can convert it or edit it and youtube is ignoring it.
I can find a lot of examples of others having similar problems, but I cannot find an answer - anyone successfully converted it?

It's a room where your worst nightmare is.
They find out what it is by monitoring you, and they torture you and "re-educate you" into being a complete drone following the political party.
You have to read it, really.
It was also a television programme where people chose things they hate and tried to persuade the host to put them into room 101, which is more of what the coursework was about. We'd just studied 1984, you see.
Edit: You would also understand "Talk Shows on Mute" if you read 1984, seeing as that's what inspired the song ;)
Hence the line "Come one, come all into 1984" and one of the reasons why I love the song so much.

Nineteen Eighty-Four (the title is not numeric, and considering you've been having a go at people for being lazy with their english you should know better) is far superior. animal farm is a great book, and an incredibly intelligent analogy, but not as good as eighty-four

I like Animal Farm because of the fact that I'm a history student. I study it anyway.
Nineteen Enighty-Four is entirely fictitious, despite its similarities with the world today, and I don't like it as much.
Maybe YOU like it more, but I don't.

it's a good 50 years starting with marx's original theories and ending with the start of the downfall of the USSR.
but it's still fictional. as i said up there ^^^^ somewhere, it's a fantastic political analogy, but it is (deliberately) far from the facts.
if it wasn't it wouldn't have stood the test of time. I first read it when i was about 8, and obviously didn't get any of the political references. also, if it was the full story of the revolution it'd be dull. as apart from the major events (which are all referenced) it was (as most revs are) quite dull

You however have a little problem. I think it is no more than a loss of appetite. However the stress that can be caused from this can make it worse. Make that appointment but until then try and get something simple inside you ( no, not me ) cup-a-soup or the like.

"The researchers say that is would be extremely difficult to restrict human diets to this level. They estimate that average women would typically eat 2,000 calories a day would need to eat 1,200 calories and an average man would regularly eat 2,500 calories a day would need to eat 1,500 calories. This would be the equivalent of a 40 percent reduction in calories."

On the other hand, it'll be more difficult with a reduced diet to get enough of all the nutrients you need.
I expect it's possible if you're careful.
Also, I know it's difficult to get access to scientific papers without being a part of it, I'd struggle without my university access.

I'm not actually espousing this as a way of life for anyone. Just that It's something I took up ( being on operations in my 20's meant that calorific intake was sporadic anyway ) kind of by accident. I learned of the health benefits later in life and just continued with it. I'm not religious about it, I just ensure I won't get fat on over indulgence of food. I drink far too much beer and wine to be considered a normal case study. I'm told I look well for my age. What age I reach I am not willing to make a wager on.

Reduced calorie intake in rats (or maybe mice) increased their lifespan. I don't think it's been conclusively proven and definitely not for humans.

that's unlikely to catch them unawares. What you'd really need to do is wait for the question of morality to come up.
Then say: "Even ignoring the shaky ground of validility and taking the bible in its own context, morality and sins are dubious to say the least.
Given that god himself is omniscent and all knowing, past, future and present; that makes all philosophical insight to the acts of Adam and Eve redundant.
As the very act of placing the tree in the garden of Eden and informing the two of its presence, would be with the very intention of making Adam and Eve taste the fruit.
As such, god's foresight discards any morality or ethical system; as his very actions have been the cause for all sin, immorality and wrong doings."
Then take a sip of drink and ask if you can use the bathroom.

Mmmm cheesy pose :D. So I've spent a few hours playing with vectoring and this is the result. I've used Gimp and Inkscape so far. Should I remove the white border? If so what's the best way of removing it?
Color to Alpha turns the image semi-transparent and trying to select the areas I need is almost impossible.
Any tips much appreciated!

But yes, get rid of the white border, the easiest way to do this being to put a white background on it :)

but a bold colour background really seems to lift the image

in gimp
1) get source image, remove background
2) increase contrast
in inkscape
3) path bitmap, vector
in gimp
4) fix imperfections in vector image with clone tool
4) cut features out of old source pic, eyes/hair/mouth etc and layered them over the vector image.
5) then traced over the hair, edited colour levels and generally touched it up by eye
6) finally worked on removal of seams :)

then I'm guessing your problems stem way back from step one, when you removed the background.
I don't use Gimp so I'm not going to give a step-by-step, but here's a general idea of how to fix this quickly.
Turn off the background and merge all of the foreground, white outline included, onto one new layer.
Set the new layer to 'preserve transparency'.
Now use the clone tool to 'extend' the edges of the coloured area onto the white... just click right near the edge of the colour to set the sample position, then move a few pixels in and clone onto the white.
Messy, but it should basically work.

I've investigated all the other possible quick fixes and failed, so it looks like more manual grafting is necessary.

I fixed this using the method above. It left it looking pretty jaggy, so I smoothed it by selecting everything except the background, masking it, gaussian blurring the mask, then playing with the levels of the mask until the jaggies smoothed out.
