Off-thread
Since I often have to work instead of hang out on the board, I have made* a Perl script that grabs items that fall off the front page of /board and emails them to me. Anyone interested?
*During work of course

Can you do one for the /board popular page, or does it require an RSS?
At the moment, it basically says "What is not on the front page now that was last time I checked" then grabs those threads and tweaks the HTML a bit. It doesn't display right in Outlook (including animated gifs) but better than not seeing them.
Note that it doesn't inline the images either so if you're blocked by a proxy or firewall, you're still out of luck. I'm considering that but it's a bit more advanced. Should also be possible to thumbnail the images instead of sending the full thing.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know anything much about copyright law? I'm interested to know if I'm breaking it by doing a drawing or painting of someone else's photos.
You're only using the photo as reference material, not copying it to use in a commercial way, right?
(mediocreha ha ha, you're reading this,

From what I understand of UK copyright law,
copyright is created as soon as something is in a physical form. In this case the paintings.
The copyright holder then has the right to stop people copying or adapting the work without their consent. They also have moral rights, which prevent the work being used in a defamatory way.
You would, technically, be breaking copyright by creating a derivative work (your painting) without asking permission. Although as long as you are not making money off it then I can't imagine why anyone would take action against you.
EDIT: Copyright lasts for 70 years after the creator's death as well...
the original image and what copyright restrictions were placed upon it. Sometimes derivative works are allowed for non-commercial reproductions. It would be unwise to publish anything that is a direct copy, in another medium, for commercial purposes without gaining express written consent from the copyright holder. ( it's a courtesy to mail the image rights holder just to say, I did this, I hope you don't mind and do you want to place any restrictions on use? ).

I'm looking into Virgin.
I know that BT don't have any fibre op after their stupid desision to keep coax when replacing all their lines in the late 90's. It cost them more in the end as they got screwed over by the contractors. Unlimited 20meg line for £30 a month.

This message you are reading skated down a canal into a shoebox. From there it was sent into space and with the combined power of all the stars it was transferred to your computer.
As it's used by a fair few people for streaming. I'm no too much concerned about the move more the average min. I have heard good things about Be and Zen though.

It claims to be unlimited.
I don't do much torrenting so haven't pushed it myself.
Free landline calls 24/7. 20meg unlimited, line. Full TV package including all the movie channels at 71 quid a month. I pay about £30 a month for Sky as it is. So not bad.

Ah but you have to bear in mind this is for a business

Watch the throttling though Ghosty
I have 10MB+phone line for £22/month, but have to DL over night. If you go over 1.2 G of an evening (which takes some doing to be fair) they reduce you to 25% for 5 hours as a slap on the wrist. And god forbid you have any problems (used to work for them, their idea of customer service is to drag people in off the street, if you know what you're doing you're overqualified!) Still, I've been ok with it so far. Beats the shit out of AOL.

I'm right near the exchange.
geographically and electronically but the blue box doesn't matter as that's BT's stuff. They don't lease to Virgin, they have their own fibre op.

er, maybe i was a bit vague before
he's on bt, wants to sign up for virgin media, but can't as the virgin box is full.

I have Be as well. It's definitely unlimited.
Their DNS is shag so I'm using OpenDNS' one instead.
Plus you're fairly unlikely to get 24 unless you have a goldencock 4000 setup and are right next to the telephone exchange.

The main problem with AOL was its software.
If they're keeping quiet about it, that's fine by me.
If you want to torrent, prepare to be disappointed.
Go with Be as Porsche said. They're less like Hitler.
Lest we forget that Virgin are in on the whole Phorm thing with BT.
Steer well clear.

Mine also.
We're on TalkTalk for phone and they phoned us up daily to ask if we wanted their free broadband (it's not free). Naturally we got a bit pissed off at them. Then they bought Pipex Tiscali, I suspect out of spite.
