he manipulates the media well though. In the bit of the debate I've seen, and a few other McCain appearances, he comes across as a bumbling oaf and would surely become as sadly hilarious as George W. should he become president.
I didn't necessarily mean Giuliani would be my choice from the other possible republicans, just that he's a politician, McCain and Palin seem like they're trying hard to pretend to be politicians and failing. It's an unknowable monster at the end of day; I just hope for some politics not in alignment with the typical right-wing shock jocks at the end o the day; how that country has had such a huge proportion vote in that Bush mob twice now is perhaps a serious concern; I doubt our ramblings on this place can answer

the face of leftist politics is embarrassing as well. The stereotype seems to be some sort of sandal-wearing neohippy with a pathetic sloganed t-shirt. Instead of marching and chanting in the streets about things, wouldn't it be sensible for these people to come together to form a tangible political movement?
No, it would not, because they have jobs and families to feed, and shouting about things they don't agree with is all they have time for.
I saw quite a humourous piece from Penn & Teller bullshit, where a woman went to an anti-capitalist march with a petition to "BAN DIHYDROGENOXIDE: This has been found in our children's foods, bodies, it's all around us and no-one is doing anything to protect us from it.
No-one questioned the petition, just seemed worried and disgusted, and signed. I forget how many signatures they got altogether, but it was a lot. "Lefties" seem to have a problem with water.
My point is, informed, organised leftist politics seems to be on the wain and is being replaced by idiots similar to Tommy Sheridan who see themselves as Ghandis.

It did not come about because of the cold war, that's a complete cop-out. The US funded and supported the Taliban as a proxy against Russia, and that's why they were in power.
The link is about the fact that there was already a concerted, international as it happens, effort against the Taliban before Sep 11. Russia, India, Iran(!) and the US were supporting the northern alliance against the Taliban. Sep 11 gave certain people in the US the excuse they'd wanted for some time to step in and make some changes they'd been having to pussy foot around up to that point.
Incidentally you're a patronising twat.

I was inside the Coati enclosure this morning with a pair of juveniles (born in March), a keeper and a girl on some work experience.
These guys are seriously hard to photograph; they never stop fidgeting or moving! There also wasn't much light in the enclosure, the roof being covered with vines, so I had to go bonkers with the ISO, hence why there's so much grain. Not fond of using a flash gun.

You must have been standing on the outcrop cliff to take those photos. I remember a telephone line reaching out from there to the island. Must be gone now.
It's got it's own diesel generators, huge underground cisterns and water purification.
Once we got on there we realized the disadvantages of being on a miserable concrete and stone island cut off from the world!
