Since it's Burns night tomorrow, his finest work:
Cock up your Beaver
When first my brave Johnny lad

He had a blue bonnet

But now he has gotten
a hat and a feather
Hey, brave Johnny lad
cock up your beaver!
Cock up your beaver
and cock it fu' sprush
We'll over the border
and gie them a brush
There's somebody there
we'll teach better behaviour
Hey, brave Johnny lad

so
you snap the frames one by one and then export into something like animation shop?
( ,

that would work
www.hypersnap.com/
you can set a key (usually Scroll-Lock) as the snapshot button, and configure Hypersnap to save pictures sequentially, so you can take several at a time.
Your software DVD player must use a DirectX layer though (WinDVD does), otherwise it won't work.

sit in the front row at the odeon
with a pencil and paper,
sketch the frames you want - you may have to watch the movie more than once so buy a large bucket of popcorn,
then get yourself a decent oil painting setup and start making the frames from your sketches
next, get a large flatbed scanner and place your oil paintings in the scanner (you may have to wait a few months for the paint to cure so you don't get oil paint all over the scanner glass) and take as high a resolution scan of each painting
then simply load each frame, in order, into your favourite gif anim software
et voila!
