flash is terrible for optimising! do you have imageready? or even animation shop? edit: anyway, your problem here is that flash is optimising each frame individually, rather than optimising for the animation as a whole. that pushes the file size up massively edit2: yeah that is a bit better, but you should really try to keep files around 150-200K. you'll probably get away with it though ;)

Photos work better as jpgs
whilst vector images should be gifs or pngs. In this case a jog would be about 16k and a 8-bit png about 25k, but the quality's not as good.
