# ha ha ha
I asked my mum what she wanted for her birthday, she said a book on dry stone walling. true story.

# There is only one artisan trade better than dry stone walling,
and it requires only one word!

THATCH!
(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 12:00, archived)
# I am a dry stone waller,
All day I drystone wall
And of all the kind of walling
Dry stone walling's worst of all!

Thank you Pam Ayres, for that.

# But ironically,
A Vagabond used the right accent in his response. FREAKY FRIDAY THURSDAY!

# Pam Ayres is a wonder :D
Not as much as Philip Larkin though!

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.
(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 12:03, archived)
# we can still have old-style hats though, right?
(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 12:04, archived)
# will you wear it at a jaunty angle?
(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 12:05, archived)
# It isn't a hat if it isn't at a jaunty angle!
It is merely a covering!

TRUFAX!
(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 12:07, archived)
# :D
the extent to which something is a hat is directly proportional to the jauntiness of the wearing
(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 12:09, archived)

Whilst it is certainly no 'Reason' or 'Acid Forge pro', it's not a game. there is nothing to 'play'. It's a cheap way for people to get into a 'home studio' without getting bogged down with complications.
The sample editing studio is as good as most out there.

Open source port of elite - based on the BBC B source code that either David Braben or Ian Bell let out into the public domain a few years ago - but with a few additions. Very cool - very playable.

# You're kidding, right??
Someone has ported Elite to the Mac??? I LOVED this game when I was a kid, but as I didn't have a Beeb or a Speccy, like my mates, I couldn't play it on my own.

I had a VIC-20... :(

If this works on my Mac Pro this evening (still at work and reading B3TA) I will cry with joy!

Oh, and an excellent original post. I was so nerdy about my Cobra, I called mine 'Ghostlight', which has been my geek handle ever since. My 'pilot' was called Cartalus Atrox, a derivative of Crotalus Atrox, latin name for a pit viper. I was sticking with the snakey theme. Wipes away nostalgic tear...
