I read a very interesting report on two games companys in trouble from proven piracy
one an iPhone developer who recorded 99% usage from pirated copies of their game (that Apple are yet to try and stop) and the other being the excellent Pixeljunk people who are giving up making PSP titles due to the hacks there.
In simple terms, stop fucking pirating stuff you cunts, you're stopping games even getting made now!
(HappyToastGroat froth,

I also heard World of Goo has a 99% piracy rate.
They also said they are doing incredibly well though, and in fact for their one year birthday they let people pay a donation of whatever they want for the game as low as $0.01.

I seriously think this is the way forward
at least for PC games.
I recently got Championship manager for £2.51
There's no packaging, shipping costs. Your marketing costs are next to nothing because word spreads so quick of the deal...
And you cans till shift a fair few copies at the shop price (29.99) to those who haven't heard of the deal
(Joe Scaramangawith a G-double-O-D vibration,
Wed 28 Oct 2009, 14:07,

Well most PC games do that with digital download after a while.
Once everyone who has feasibly bought a copy has bought one, it goes on steam or whatever for cheap, and they get whatever it is minus the service's fee.
It's still gonna be just as expensive as a digital download new though, largely because big non-indie companies sink so much fucking money into development and advertising now it's not even funny.
(JeruWar and Piss,

The market now
is worth more than Hollywood though, so I suppose they think it's worth it.
I think Charlie Brooker said that GTA IV was the first game to cost over $100 million... that is insane
(Joe Scaramangawith a G-double-O-D vibration,
Wed 28 Oct 2009, 14:43,

You'd have to be clinically insane to think you can make money from iPhone software anyway.
And PC games ain't gunna be hard to crack at any point. Closed systems like the PS3 are the only way for games companies to make money unless they bother to consider lowering the price for consumers.

Bloody right!
Maybe I wouldn't have got made redundant at Christmas if there had been a bit more confidence and money in the UK game dev industry.
I must have spent well over 20 hours on that before my BluRay packed up, £2 an hour is a fucking bargain
In fact most of the games I buy last me well over 20 hours, LBP, Tekken, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Ratchet and Clank. I think the £40 mark is sound, especially as that usually means £30 off Play

I want to get it for the PC. Would have upgraded the whole system..
needs windows live account. No thanks.
Its £25 on the PC. but it comes with all the DRM windows live install / login problems.
you don't actually need to connect to windows live, you can create an offline account and still play the game
(pzykoQuery failed.,

It’s more a principle
Any online activation = no Any DRM software checking installation = no
I paid for the software, I shall not be treated as a criminal. Criminals download the software without any on-line activation and or DRM software and typically have a better experience because of it.
I’ve taken my money elsewhere. rather a lot of it. I'm shocked I used to spend that much.
Have been meaning to buy World of Goo as it is drm free; but I don’t spend that much time using the PC for non-work stuff.
About 10 hours into Borderlands, loving this so far, got Tekken 6 coming up this weekend, Modern Warfare 2 will pretty much end what's left of me social life lol

In my opinion (and I realise you don't share it and that's ok)
COD4 and COD:WAW have been easily worth their price tag. I have had literally days of play from them. Comparing this to the price of a cinema ticket or a new hard back book or a nice meal or a DVD etc., then I think you get great value for money.

Vote for a change compo
Right - this has been a bit of a mess. You made some GREAT images but Vote For A Change haven't judged them.
I've given them a number of deadlines that they've sailed through. Today I give up - the final deadline is 3pm.
Either they judge it by 3pm or I judge it myself.
The weird thing is - this isn't about money. They've sent me the cash to pay for the prizes. So that's all there - just a mysterious silence about judging the damn thing.
EDIT2: Moaning about it online has produced a result. Had a call from them a full winner list will be in our inbox by 1.30 he promises. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK.

much like european voting and Eire, keep having a vote until it's got the correct answer (in the meantime your country has a sudden agricultural disease outbreak.. tinfoil much? fuck no).

I had no idea about the recent goings-on at MTV
I am therefore not hip (is that the word?) with the kids
of course back in my day it was all Music Box with Gaz Top and Amanda Redington and Simon Potter and Martin Buchanan and that other guy. Oh and Pat Sharp was on the Sky programme
Of course back then music was all played on a cine film and it was silent. A man with a piano had to try and play along to the hits of the day
