B3ta Randomburn 2008.

Show off your übercool collection. Discover new musical delights. Pour scorn on other people's taste.

That's right, it's Randomburn time again. back and slightly worse than before, as I'm doing it this year seeing as Claire has buggered off somewhere or other.

You all know the rules by now. If not, listen up...

18 tracks randomly selected by your chosen music player put down on a CD. You can have 3 complete substitutions (anything you want to showcase) and 2 same artist but different song substitutions.

You don't have to substitute any if you don't want to and you can change the running order of the CD as you see fit. The only real stipulation is that the initial track listing MUST have originally been selected with your player on shuffle / random.

"OMG that sounds cocking awesome, what do I do now?"

All participants should sign up to this event and GAZ me their e-mail address so i can randomly find the lucky recipients of your amazing CD. In the meantime, sort out your CD's ready to post.

I will then email you the FIVE recipients of your CD, who you can contact to arrange postal delivery with them. These people are not the same five who will be sending you a CD. If that was too much for your brain to handle, here's a simple explanation...

If you're still struggling with the concept, quite frankly you're a simpleton, but GAZ me anyway and I'll talk you through it or answer any questions.

Don't be a twat and receive 5 CD's and not send any out. There will be terrible consequences for anyone doing this (I'll have a bit of a moan and call you names).

This has been a great event in the past and it's very interesting to see what's lurking in the depths of other people's iTunes.

EDIT: I am a very trustworthy chap and will not spam, stalk, or do anything untoward with you email address. Ask anyone.

I did this last year and got some great stuff off a particular Bedfordshire based DJ amongst others.

It has also reminded me that I need to finish doing a compilation CD for a good friend which I haven't finished yet!!

I'll have a go

My laptop seems to have lost its own driver for the DVD burner but I think itunes can do it anyway. I'll have a practice go in advance, otherwise I can get someone in the studio to do it as I'm sure there's enough kit in there.

Embrace the 'distinctiveness' of your random selection.

And as the rules state, you can make a couple of substitutions that more reflect your true tastes if the random selection doesn't do so.

In the past I have DJ'd weddings (gawd help me)

I doubt that anyone can top some of the utter bilge I have in my folder.

I don'y use an

ipod player thingy. I have a few albums on my XDA but not enough for a random CD. I have a few thousand tracks on the PC. How would one go about choosing 18 random songs from that lot?

Queue them all up in your favourite music-player software

then turn on the shuffle option and see what comes up.

You could just download iTunes or MediaMonkey

or even just open up Windows Media Player, add your music to it, and select shuffle, noting the first 18 tracks that come up :)

By the way, don't fear that you have to send my CDs to South Africa as I bring in container loads of food every 3-4 weeks so my CD can be sent to the shipping company I use in Hull and they will put the CDs into a box of Jaffa Cakes.

Also, I don't own an ipod and being a DJ I have folders full of utter bilge so I will have to cheat a little and put some decent tracks into a playlist and do the winamp shuffle.

I think this is a bloody wonderful idea, by the way.
