Tits of Giza
Giza's most famous archaeological site, the Giza Plateau, holds some of the most astonishing monuments in Egyptian history. Once thriving with the Nile that flowed right into the Giza Plateau, the Tits of Giza were built overlooking the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis, which was near modern day Cairo.

I was just being sarcastic. In the recent past there was some bitching about how it isn't fair that Happy Toast gets a lot of FPs, because he has 'fancy 3d software'. In fact I remember seeing one comment to the effect "how are we supposed to compete?" or something along those lines.
In fairness I think the person I'm (mis?)quoting here was actually complaining more about the nature of images on the FP, which I think they were basically saying had changed.

This sounds like a bit of sour grapes.
If Mr Toast has 'fancy 3d software', then anyone can go and download or buy said software. An image doesn't get on the front page if it doesn't get clicked. It doesn't get clicked if it isn't funny or good, 3d software or not. Just look at the first two images on the FP at the moment.

I've been working on this in-between 'proper' work this evening. It's made in Corel Painter.

I can just see a bunch of stuff wrong with it. Also, it's almost the exact opposite of what I intended to do, which was something very sloppy and unfussy. I think I was in the wrong frame of mind and I somehow got drawn into doing this instead.

Actually, it might be interesting to explore what that could look like.
Replacing cubes with spheres would not be correct. Maybe it would look Escheresk.

at first i thought it was a jigsaw puzzle, but then i realised it's one of those side-by-side pictures where you have to spot the five subtle changes between the two pics.

I may redo some of the details if can be bothered.
Now that it's posted I can see a lot of things that need some attention. I really just posted it because I didn't want to mess around with it any more :) I may have some more patience for it at a later date.

floaty lanterns
CFB [1024x768]. A work in progress... my first good pull from the plate. Done with aquatint, which in this gase is basically spraying a zinc plate with black spraypaint, and etching it in acid. Plate gets loaded up with ink, then sent through a press. Approx 9"x6". Hope I can lighten up the reflections a bit. May just be a matter of wiping the plate down more.

yes
if you mean the border, thats from the paper. They do look a bit better with a proper border. The greyish at the top is meant to be a horizon. I'll probably darken that up a bit.
It's a type of etching... Probably spent 10 hours on it so far. Here's a bit about aquatint

but i'd rather do that than Hamtouch, and I know there's lots of Humph fans on here. so: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/entertainment/7367385.stm :( i think we should have just a minute's silence in memory. I'm sorry I haven't a clue what time he died, but i did a search to see if anyone had already reported it, so sorry if i'm guilty of repetition

EDIT: Ah Yes. I remember now that it was wank :) It got recommended to me by iLike by what I can only imagine was some kind of glitch in the system. I was listening to someone like Ryan Adams at the time.
I just checked out Eunice Huthart on IMDB as I remembered her being on Gladiators and saying she was a stunt double in it. She has been a stunt double for everything the last 10 years!

what's that old line about repressed gay he-men creating bizarre, intricate rituals so that they can touch one another in an intimate manner and still try and claim not to be gay? i think it was a sports discussion that prompted it.
