Click for bigger (252 kb)

Thurgood Jaybird gained fame in the late 80's and early 90's as America's finest yodeling lounge singer. In his heyday, he was best known for the seemingly endless rivers of saliva that would spew from his mouth during live performances (because of this, audience members routinely brought a change of clothes to his concerts). In addition to his singing prowess, Jaybird is also a gifted amateur artist who has won numerous awards for his beautiful watercolor paintings of endangered monkeys dressed as high-ranking Vatican officials.

A quick blast of the crappy incidental music usually does it, if nothing else does. Just so cliched and loud. Loved the incidentals from the 70's episodes though; all that wonderful garde stuff.

CGI is only ever any good when you can't tell it's CGI, otherwise, just make a rubber suit!

# Brains are pretty good at filling in the gaps without all of the fancy computer stuff.
I know I'm perilously going into old grumpy man territory.

But I was watching a Buster Keaton film last night. The lightning was just a frame or two of a jagged line drawn on the film. But it worked.

Or in Citizen Kane, if you look at the snow, and leaves falling, in some scenes, you can tell they're just drawn on the frames.

I think my gripe is partly due to what the cgi stuff is telling me, even if it's subliminal. That my brain isn't good enough.

Been grumpy for many years me!

The one I always remember is the final scene at the end of the first episode of "The Ark in Space", the bit where Harry opens a cupboard and the big insecty thing comes out... cut to end credits. That had me absolutely cacking myself as a kid, so much so that I didn't watch the rest of it at the time, even though I knew it wasn't real and it was just a rubber suit. Looking at the CGI stuff now, there isn't anything I think would have had the same effect on me.

The discus throw is an event in track and field athletics competition, in which an athlete throws a heavy disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than his or her competitors. It is an ancient sport, as evidenced by the 5th century BC Myron statue, Discobolus. Although not part of the modern pentathlon, it was one of the events of the ancient pentathlon, which can be dated at least back to 708 BC
