I'm feeling a lot of love for Porco Rosso.

The Cat Returns has the best soundtrack song, whilst Kiki's Delivery Service has an opening sequence to die for (once the cat turns the radio on) and a great end-credits epilogue montage.
But I'd say Castle in the Sky does it best overall, with the crazy architecture, technology and instantly fabricated mythology. Totoro is still the best for kids though. Shame it's all gone to pants lately.

sequel on the way! I did enjoy Ponyo, but not so much as the early stuff.
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 15:01, archived)
# I thought Ponyo was well produced but too derivative of earlier stuff and inconsistent.
The sea-goddess I could cope with, but the mad morose magical submariner somehow spawning in an underwater goldfish bowl was just too outré even for a Ghibli film.
And that whole 'tasted human blood' thing really didn't translate well.
And Earthsea was just completely unengaging. By which I mean a bit shit.

bit long though. Im looking for short and snappy.
Someone suggested "we interrupt this broadcast", which was also good, but too long.

I suppose "hottest thing on TV" could work. Ta for your suggestion, sir.

# I do like "TV dinner"
as it is as rude as you want to read into it. It could mean pure filth, or it could mean 'what a dish!' kind of thing. Plus, TV dinners make me think of 1950's families with their TV trays and 'gee-whiz!' and all that.

# Also
do you think the signature is obvious enough?
The 'AH-11' logo on the TV is my initials and the year the image it was made.
I always put some sort of signature on my images to try and deter cheeky cunts from nicking it.
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 10:00, archived)
# You know exactly what it means, but any potential thieves probably don't.
As signatures go, it's a part of the overall image - which probably means it's less likely to be erased than a free-floating 'AH 2011'.
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 10:13, archived)
# so... is that a good thing?
I'd say it is. I hate obtrusive signatures on images.
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 11:28, archived)
# Personal taste? I prefer the subtle/merged signature, and try to do it wherever possible.
There will always be some pics which don't offer much room for anything other than a blatant free-floater, though.

# why the change in style of face?
It's a lovely composition and everything, but I wonder if it would be better with your more cartoony style face. It's edging a bit too close to the uncanny valley for me this one.
Also not sure on the cable near her head, doesn't look right, wants to disappear more toward her shoulder, not cheek

and I agree with Cathy Ray, let the idiots not get it, why panda to them?
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 10:04, archived)
# Its a tribute to Gil Elvgren
and his gals are always a bit realistic, but slightly caricaturish. I didnt want to go too nuts with the stylisation, as im a bit sick of doing that sort of stuff at the moment, and wanted to try and emulate a 1950s pinup.
I agree though - ive seen folks try and do the same thing, and the face always looks creepy. I think its the strained, very 'cheek-heavy' expression that theyre always in!

I'd like to think that she's pretty far away from realistic enough to be considered 'uncanny valley'
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 10:07, archived)

# To quote Mrs Morbo - "fuck thick people!"
Im going with Cathy Ray

Its not very pun-laden, but its catchy, has a double meaning, and 'cathy' is quite a sweet retro name anyway.

I ditched TV dinners when i did some research on wikipedia. Guess my minds view of TV dinners was different to reality...

# i always thougth a tv dinner was a microwave "meal"
(, Tue 21 Jun 2011, 11:00, archived)
# it is pretty much
i thought they were called TV dinners because they were made for the quintessential 50's families who ate while watching TV. Turns out theyre basically frozen meals that are named so, due to the shape of the tray they came in.

My romantiscised 50's view is shattered! *puts propeller cap on and sulks*

Bastard! I cant stop thinking about what could have been. Top suggestion.

I think ill stick to Cathy Ray though. Its more unique, so therefore easier to find on a search. Cathy is a nice name too, and i try to name all the gals i make.
