MNNGgghhh, my neighbour is having a party,
which evidently includes karaoke. I've just sat through a rendition of 'Danger, High Voltage!' performed by what sounds quite like a middle aged man.

How do you best propose I kill them all?

EDIT: Right, I'm showering, then going out.

There was a lad that went to our school who, to put it politely, was Fire-friendly.
Once tried to get out of P.E. by using a can of solvent and a lighter to melt his tatty trainers to the changing room floor.

He had to the run twice, barefoot, then help one of the cleaners prize his shoes off the floor.

This was the last time the school wittingly put him in charge of a solvent substance :(

Now the nikon D90 is out
There are some good deals to be had on D80s.
I've got the 18-70 and 70-300 zooms and a 50mm prime lens.

But go to a shop and have a play. I prefer nikon but other people prefer canon. Canon bodies feel cheap and plasticky to me
It's a lot of brass so shop around. There tend to be more accessories available for nikons and canons
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 19:46, archived)
I chose Canon because they make a couple of lenses that nobody else makes
but I'm lusting after a D700 now.

When you start out, camera bodies seem to be really expensive, but as soon as you buy a stupidly expensive lens you realise that they are not.

I'll probably end up with a cheap Nikon body if I want a lens that isn't available from anyone else (D80s are going for peanuts on ebay atm).

don't bother with a bridge camera
buy a cheap DSLR and a 50mm/1.8 lens to compliment the kit lens (or get a bargain off ebay)

totally go for a nikon d60.
bridge cameras can get good results, but they're no substitute for a DSLR. d60 with 18-55mm vr lens and i can also reccommend the nice sigma 55-200 zoom from jessops, it doesn't have the largest aperture in the world, but it's not too shabby. and it's about £125 new, so s/h..
if you do go for a compact, fuji or sony are GREAT for a combo of good shots and getting sharp, well exposed pics waving it roudn drunk in a dark room with flashing lights.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 20:03, archived)
i don't really get spending loads on heavy dslr's that are a pain to carry around and v expensive
when the pics will be reduced so they can go onto the internet
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 20:16, archived)
but DSLRs have much less noise at higher ISOs and more dynamic range/less clipping etc.
and most compact cameras don't output RAW files/'digital negatives' so you're limited in how you can process your favourite photos

(and you need the resolution if you want to make large prints).

most people have already said the usefull stuff.
the only real difference between nikon and canon these days are the shapes. it's personal preference. but if you're not a total camera buff then it's totally worth looking at pentax ones at the same price range as the D60 or D90. it's worth getting a D60 and then spending cash on an extra lens or two. the lens you get with the camera is generally bog standard. i could keep waffling for hours. but pretty much everyone has already said what you really need. look around on ebay and amazon to find the best price for things. blah blah blah.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 20:27, archived)
Unless you expect to take 1,000's of pictures
go for a £250 film camera and a £100 film scanner, spend the remainder on film/developing

fail
if you were talking about medium (6x6cm/7cm/17cm)or large (4x5inch) format cameras as a means of doing quality landscape work for not much money, then it would be worth considering film (because the digital equivalent is still extremely expensive: several thousand pounds and more expensive).

But 35mm film and cameras are pretty much obsolete (unless you're in the middle of the arctic/wilderness and need a fully manual backup if your batteries fail); no 35mm film can rival the output from a bog-standard DSLR at ISO 800 and above.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 21:17, archived)
My med format scans come out at 20,000x15,000 (@300 megapixel)
my 35mm scans come out at @ 12,000x8,000 (@100 megapixel)

I may be out of date but I have never heard of a digital camera coming anywhere near those resolutions

I accept running costs of film are higher and that high resolution images are not much use on a 1600x1200 monitor
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 21:37, archived)
You could scan your film at 120'000 x 80'000, but you wouldn't gain any more useful information (you'd just end up with a nice images of dye clusters and silver nitrate crystals)
Whereas an 8-12 megapixel image file from a DSLR has 8-12 megapixels of actual information.

In practical/printing terms (assuming normal viewing distances and not doing some fetishy like examining slides with a loupe), 35mm film maxes out at between 6&8 megapixels.

When I go to Alaska in a couple of years time (kayaking), I will take a manual camera loaded with slide film (not Velvia; too saturated) as a backup, but my DSLR will be taking most of the images.

The major thing seems to be that there's a big crosswind, so the plane has to come in sideways, then you kick it straight just before you hit the ground so you hit the ground going in the right direction.

I've done it, it's not that fucking difficult.

depends on the jacket/blazer
badly cut navy blue double breasted monstrosities with gold buttons are hideous, but well designed blazers are pretty much a fashion staple.

So in your world, the suit jacket shape must only be worn with trousers made from the same cloth as the jacket (aka a suit)?

(the look doesn't work if you are fat, though; it's a fitted thing)
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 17:44, archived)
Pretty much.
They look shit on 99% of people. The only people they do look good on are the people who'd quite frankly look good in anything.

I'm not fat and just being upset that I look like shit in one myself, I honestly think the people who dress like that are knobs.

They're hardly fashion staples either.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 17:48, archived)
most collections (whether from Next or uber&overpricedfashionhouse)
usually have two or three blazers in (to be worn with dress/smart trousers/jeans and shirts as part of a 'going out' outfit)

not as much of a staple as shirts & trousers etc., obviously

(P.S. didn't mean to imply that you were fat)

but I hate the whole thin women = not real/unhealthy (instead of just being in a minority) & not thin women = real/healthy (instead of being the average/the majority) thing.

Although there are extremely thin/skeletal models (and this is not good); most designers prefer thin models because they're better at promoting clothes/showing how clothes hang & move. It's not some grand conspiracy.

people are always going to judge on looks
it's not pleasant, but it happens (I've had women laugh at my receding hairline in clubs etc.)

I'd rather be honest about and admit that I find X more attractive than Y (in a purely physical sense) than lie to people.

My problem with this so-called debate is that terms of reference are completely wrong. Thin women are not freaks (merely fewer in number) and non-thin women are no more real (merely more common) than thin women etc.

I know the husband of one of them
Some cunt pointed a gun at him at work, probably because his wife was blacked up and skriking like a pig in an abattoir at the time.

When I lived in retardshire the pub over the road used to have morris dancers outside sometimes
I found it funny to watch, tho I was generally pissed, which probably helped.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 11:17, archived)
They do this every bank holiday week end
Then I forget, then they come back. To my knowledge I have yet to see a single punter do anything other than give them a wide birth. Only morrismen like morris dancing. True fact.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 11:20, archived)
who are Morrismen??
some kind of cult?

The what?

(, Sat 23 May 2009, 12:09, archived)
Befriend them, I'm sure they're a happy bunch.
I would be quite happy if I could spend all day waving sticks in white clothes with dangly bits. A guy like me can see a good livin' in that. Then, once you've befriended them, join their troupe, suggest that they're better off morris dancing outside [ex wife/boss/downing street]'s house.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 11:34, archived)
With all due respect
Fuck off.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 11:34, archived)

I can't decide which underpants to wear today
Do you wear underpants?

I like the internet. I like posting words on the internet. Hello.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:36, archived)
I'm not too sure which ones to wear either Frank.
I mightn't wear any.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:38, archived)
HELLO
I'm not sure who's sexier today, you or Esme

we can only settle this if you two wrestle to the death in a bath of cold baked beans on blogtv
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:58, archived)
I do wear underpants. sometimes.

(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:39, archived)
I might have some food now

(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:41, archived)
It's a dilemma, alright.
I don't know whether to match them with my bra or not. I don't know how I get up in the mornings!
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:39, archived)
I never wear matching bra and pants.
Seeing as how all of my bras are black and virtually all of my pants are multicoloured. I don't think I've ever owned a matching set though. Sad times.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:40, archived)
Mine never really match,
they just sometimes happen to be the same colour. Fuck that buying sets malarkey.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:51, archived)
See,
I'd quite like matching sets if they weren't so stupidly expensive because of my stupid comedy tits.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:53, archived)
Haha.
I like having the small boobies, I have to say.

I just literally ripped a bus timetable to pieces, I must be some kind of DEMIGOD
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 11:14, archived)
I wear underpants. I don't wear them when doing a poo, that would be messy. Also I take them off to shower and sleep. I put a clean pair on in the morning. When I don't have many pairs of underpants left I wash them all and start again.

(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:40, archived)

I'm bored of underpants now
I'm in an EXCEPTIONALLY good mood this morning

it's a tad unnerving to walk around in a flimsy dress when it's very windy. I don't like the risk of "accidental exposure".

BREAKFAST NOM.
Bacon, egg and mushroom in a toasted muffin and a cup of Yorkshire tea. I think I'm a strong contender for best breakfast.
Are you making the most of the weather today, or are you going to spend it indoors with your curtains drawn so you can see the monitor?
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 10:21, archived)
HELLO.
We don't have any breakfastables. Come round to ours with your leftovers.

I'm probably going to town today, got stuff to buy to send out with my randomburns. Fancy it?

You're well dedicated.
I have DIY to do. A tiny bit of patch plastering, I really should decide on the sound system I want too, so I can make the shelves. Plus there's gardening to do, but that'll wait 'till tomorrow I think.

Are you doing other decoratey things as well as painting?
