The dialog is tedious, clunky and heavy, and badly spoken. The film starts to drag as there is nothing going on. They are super aliens but have only managed to create 3 zombies. Jesus this film is way worse than manos.
But technically, manos leaves plan 9 standing. Is your link the version where the sound is way way out of synch?
Woods best film is clearly Glen or Glenda, where there are moments of art-house like cinema. (the whole bit where he gets married with the devil watching and then visits god, and then the people are laughing at him and he goes into the corner surrounded and comes out as a women is fantastic and fabulous, reminiscent of Bergman even.

and tried watching the first episode of his TV show, but I just can't get into it. Unlike Curb, where I like Larry, even if he is slightly odd, Louie came across (in the few minutes I watched) as pretty unpleasant to the point where its unwatchable, and there also seems to be a nasty undercurrent of right wing politics in it. If I am completely wrong let me know and I'll try episode 2!

Right a thought, is Capitalism akin to pyramid selling? Bear with me,as with pyramid selling, you need a constant influx of 'new recruits' Ergo, Bush based his whole economic strategy on immigration, we seem to rely heavily on keeping a pool of low paid /low skilled people at the bottom of the rung.

The first movie was essentially a conspiracy nut film and falls apart because of it. The 2nd and 3rd are very clever though, and move on to systemic issues and broader anti-capitalist theory and current scientific knowledge. 'Addendum' and 'Moving Forward' are well worth watching with an open mind.
My review of movie 3 (the one linked to above): wp.me/p1hrvf-1k
The problem with the Zeitgeist Movement (and I know this because I attended one of their lectures and briefly used their forum) is that they are overburdened with conspiracy nuts each trying to push their own zany theories into the next movie. A lot of their followers seem to miss the point of the decent films (i.e. systemic problems in a quasi-Marxist sense, not a pseudo-masonic conspiracy).
That said, I applaud Joseph's effort. At least SOMEONE is trying to come up with a contemporary populist ideology, that isn't some kind of disgusting fascist bigotry like the BNP or a horrific medieval throwback form of theology like Islamism, to combat the zombie 'end-of-history' state of neoliberalism we live in today.

44 seconds in, err, the map, are you wanting to be taken seriously or not?
2 minutes in, too much driving, repetetive dull music and oh I've given up.
Sorry, not got an hour to spend on what admittedly could hold the answer to everything, but based on the first 2 minutes will be unrewarding.
I suggest a brief montage of the next 50 minutes at the start so people are hooked or know it's not for them.

2 minutes into your review and ive disregarded it on the basis that if you dont give something a chance then im not going to give you a chance. Which is a shame cuz i like your work HappyToast.
Edit: Just a bit peeved at my first response being about a poor choice of font thats all, skip thru to the 24minute mark for a good battle scene
( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 10:52, Reply)

you're expecting people to give it a chance, yet he's just quite sensibly explained why people won't actually bother - esp for an hour. I did 10 mins, good effort - but those titles....
( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:01, Reply)

HappyToast is only trying to be helpful, and he does raise some valid points.. the first 2 minutes aren't engaging enough to justify spending the next 50 minutes watching the rest. I'm sure you've put a lot of effort into it, but 50 mins is a long time to invest, especially on the internet where most people switch off after 10 seconds..
( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:08, Reply)

the average internet user who will
1) Judge a book by its cover - right or wrong, a nice font might reduce the chance of it being clicked off before people give it a chance.
2) Want instant rewards. Most usability research suggests people skim read the internet. People need to know that it's worth their time before investing their time. A few exciting clips up-front are likely to encourage people to keep watching.
That said, good work getting it made, though I would question the wisdom of more people unnecessarily going onto the streets at the time.
edit: Having watched it now, I'd say that it could do being a bit more Jon Ronson and a bit less Nathan Barley. It seems a bit too "LOL riot" in places, and zooming in on someone lying apparently injured in the street seemed quite cold. Mocking the police's response for asking you to go home, rather than questioning what you are doing there seemed to highlight the lack of objective awareness that a documentary really needs. That said, it was pretty watchable, even if for morbid curiosity reasons.

( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:56, Reply)

as you're doing a great job of backing me up about, you get very sensitive on here - so I find it a little strange you'd offhandedly dismiss someone's work in such a way.
Regardless of what you think, this person has spent more than five minutes on the project and it's his own work... So I'd expect - from you at least - a more constructive criticism
( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 12:02, Reply)

you started by saying I cried drunkenly in to my keyboard when someone criticizes my work, as evidence you then posted a link to me saying "I'm too pissed to care" about the file size of someone's image that you had commented on that you had remembered from 5 years ago.
Is that not just a little odd?
( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 12:09, Reply)

look up there^^^^ "it wasn't actually about a critique of your work... "
so that's that bit sorted...
The fact remains that - in that sub thread - hence why it was the only bit posted, that you were drunk and being over sensitive... I have a good memory; what's wrong with that? I remember most things that have been said on here...
aaaaaanyway... due to said sensitivity, I am surprised by the flippancy... is it really THAT hard to understand? Am I typing this in a foreign language or something?

Harsh I know.
If you're going to do anything long, especially on Youtube, then you have to grab the attention of the viewer in the first 30 seconds. You didn't manage that. Plus, your opening dialogue was scratchy as fuck. It's not a shot to camera or live video so there's no excuse for muddy sound.

Reminds me of when a primary school kid asks their teacher a very astute question and completely stumps them.

The original Maggie Thatcher "There is no such thing as society" interview.
"But it went too far. If children have a problem, it is society that is at fault. There is no such thing as society. There is living tapestry of men and women and people and the beauty of that tapestry and the quality of our lives will depend upon how much each of us is prepared to take responsibility for ourselves and each of us prepared to turn round and help by our own efforts those who are unfortunate."
No society but a living tapestry? wtf.
"help...those less fortunate"? Yeah, tell it to the rich who pay no fucking tax and the banks who have (as per mofaha's FP) fucked us all over. They got theirs, as the saying goes.

I think you'll find that "the rich" pay a hell of a lot of tax. The top 10% of earners in the UK pay over 50% of the income tax bill.

I'm sorry to take up a thread with this news just thought that it would explain any absence of me on b3ta for a while...

I'm mainly just a lurker here, but have enjoyed you and your contributions. Hope that doesn't come off as creepy. Deepest condolences.

but the medicine they gave him to relive the pain was the kind cancer patiences are normally given and he was breathing really badly during the night had I had trouble trying to rouse him, walked him around the room a little at about 2.30am and he seemed a bit responsive so I let him go back to sleep in the hope the drugs would wear off but he seems to have choked on his own vomit in the night.

Lost my Dad back in 2000 under similar circumstances and no-one who has'nt gone through the loss of someone so close can feel how your feeling right now.
It sounds corny as fuck but I found the best way to deal with it was to imagine them still there with you, just in your head rather than walking and talking. Although I'd imagine you don't feel anything but the emptiness that losing them has created.
Massive sympathy.

The internets is great of course, but I trust you have friends and family in the "real world" around you now too?
( , Tue 16 Aug 2011, 9:49, Reply)

there are some friends who have said I can come around to their place but as for my family I phoned my Dad (lives in Horncastle) early this morning and he said he would contact my Brother to pop around but o sign of him nor any phone call from him. We are not a close family although there is no animosity between us we just live our seperate lives with as little contact between us as possible if that make sense.

I hope you don't mind, but I posted this poem when another b3tan lost their mother.
Death Is Nothing At All by Henry Scott Holland
Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

What a lovely lot most b3tans are. At times of sadness like this it kind of rekindles your faith in people.

There really is little to nothing anyone can say or do that feels like it would help when something like this happens, but I'm sure I speak for nearly every person on B3ta when I say we are thinking of you. Take care.
